“Un giovane uomo è stato obbligato ad andare sul retro dei negozi di Creggan, dove gli hanno sparato”, spiega il vice sindaco di Derry Kevin Campbell, Sinn Fein.
“Non c’è posto per questo tipo di azioni in questa comunità”.
La vittima è stata ricoverata in ospedale dopo il ferimento, avvenuto intorno alle 22.
Un portavoce della polizia ha affermato: “Mentre l’indagine sull’incidente è in fase embrionale, un attacco in stile paramilitare sembrerebbe essere la principale linea da seguire al momento”.
Pat Ramsey, parlamentare SDLP per Foyle, chiede al RAAD di dialogare anziché usare la violenza.
“Chiedo anche alla comunità di rispondere a questo attacco consegnando le informazioni relative ai perpetratori”, ha affermato.
“Le armi ed i pestaggi non risolveranno i problemi di drogra a Derry ed il gruppo responsabile di queste attività deve comprenderlo e affrontare le questioni in maniera democratica – senza fomentare la paura nelle nostre ocmunità e senza provocare dolore e spargimento di sangue”.
Sabato si è svolto a Derry il raduno pianificato dal gruppo “RAAD – Not in my name”, per protestare contro questo genere di attacchi.

Teen victim shot ‘by appointment’
An 18-year-old man who was shot in both legs in Londonderry was ordered to the Creggan area so the “shooting by appointment” could be carried out, the city’s deputy mayor has claimed.
“A young man was ordered to the back of the Creggan shops and he was shot,” Sinn Féin’s deputy mayor Kevin Campbell explained.
“There’s no room for this kind of action in this community.”
The victim has been treated in hospital following the shooting, which happened at about 10pm.
A police spokesperson said: “While the investigation into the incident is in its early stages, a paramilitary-style attack would appear to be the major line of inquiry at this stage.”
SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey has urged RAAD to engage in dialogue rather than violence.
“I also strongly urge the community to respond to this attack by coming forward with information about those behind it,” he said.
“Guns and beatings will not resolve drug problems in Derry and the vigilantes responsible for these activities must realise this and address issues in a democratic way – without inciting fear in our communities and causing pain and bloodshed.”
A rally against the group and its actions has already been planned for Saturday, in the wake of a number of similar attacks, and is still due to go ahead at 3pm at Derry’s Guildhall Square.
