Derry: operazione sicurezza. Strade chiuse al traffico

Several roads remain closed in Derry security operation

The Buncrana Road has reopened following a rush hour police security operation in Derry.

Artificieri | Army bomb expertThe road had been closed between Skeoge Road and Templemore Sports Complex due to an ongoing police operation. The Whitehouse Road, Coshquin Road and Groarty Road remain closed.

Officers at the scene confirmed the delays were the result of a “bomb scare.”

British Army technical officers (ATO) had been tasked to the scene.

“Police are conducting a search of the area following a report of suspicious activity,” said another PSNI officer this morning.

Last week police urged people in the Whitehouse Road area of the city to be cautious after reports of a suspicious object being left in the area.

A PSNI spokeswoman said police received information earlier this week that there may “be something suspicious in the area”.

“Officers went door to door talking to local residents and while nothing was found we would ask that should someone come across a suspicious object they do not touch it and contact police straight away,” she said.
