La polizia chiede informazioni su un attacco in stile paramilitare avvenuto nella zona di Ballymagowan Avenue intorno a mezzanotte
Intorno alle 12:03 cinque uomini a volto coperto sono entrati in un’abitazione nella zona di Ballymagowan Avenue, a Derry, armati di spranghe di ferro.
Un uomo di circa trent’anni è stato brutalmente assalito e ha riportato ferite alle gambe e alla testa. Trasportato in ospedale per le cure mediche, non è in pericolo di vita.
La polizia sta indagando anche sul danneggiamento provocato all’abitazione nel corso dell’attacco. Poco prima delle 3 la polizia ha ricevuto la notizia che alcuni cassonetti dell’immondizia erano stati messi contro la porta di casa e incendiati, provocando danni all’immobile.
L’Ispettore Capo della PSNI di Derry, Tony Callaghan, ha affermato: “La polizia lavora diligentemente per trovare le prove per portare i responsabili in tribunale. Gli attacchi in stile paramilitqre hanno un grande impatto sulle comunità e la PSNI lavora nel tentativo di far cessare questa violenza inaccettabile.
“Chi è coinvolto in questi attacchi in stile paramilitare non rappresenta gli interessi della comunità e non contribuisce ad essa. Le comunità hanno una scelta, ed è chiaro che la grande maggioranza delle persone hanno scelto di sostenere la polizia e l’ordine pubblico.
“Questi piccoli gruppi di individui che continuano a terrorizzare le persone e compiono atti criminali vanno isolati.
“Chiedo a chiunque di fornire informazioni su questi brutali attacchi alla stazione di polizia di Strand Road e, anonimamente, attraverso Crime Stoppers”.

MAN BEATEN BY MASKED DISSIDENT GANG WITH IRON BARS
POLICE are appealing for information following a paramilitary style assault in the Ballymagowan Avenue area of Derry just around midnight.
At around 12.03 am this morning, Monday, March 3o, it is believed 5 masked men entered a property armed with iron bars.
A man in his 30’s was assaulted and sustained injuries to his head and legs. He has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries that aren’t believed to be life threatening.
Police are also investigating criminal damage caused to the property were the attack happened. Just before 3 am police received a report that wheelie bins had been put against the door and set alight causing considerable damage to the property.
Chief Inspector Tony Callaghan said:
“Police work diligently to find evidence to bring those responsible before the courts. Paramilitary style attacks have a significant impact on the local communities and PSNI work alongside local communities in an effort to bring an end to this unacceptable violence.
“Those who are involved in paramilitary style attacks do not represent the interests of any community nor contribute anything to it. Communities have a choice, and it is clear that the vast majority of people here have chosen to support the police and support law and order.
“Those small groups of individuals who continue to try and terrorise people and commit criminal acts must be isolated from communities.
“I appeal to the community to give us the information we need to bring the persons responsible for these brutal attacks to contact Police at Strand Road on the non-emergency number 101.
