Circa diecimila contestatori lealisti invaderanno le strade del centro di Belfast la prossima settimana.
Una grande parata avrà luogo sabato 21 settembre, organizzata da un gruppo che si chiama “Loyal Peaceful Protesters” (Contestatori Pacifici Lealisti, ndr).
La richiesta fatta alla Commissione Parate prevede la partecipazione di 20 bande musicali e 5.000 persone in marcia.
Gli organizzatori si aspettano la partecipazione di almeno 5.000 persone sulle strade percorse dalla parata.
Il percorso inizierà alla City Hall alle 14 e percorrerà Royal Avenue, North Street, Shankill Road e Woodvale Road.
La parata terminerà in Woodvale Parade, dove una parata degli Ordini Lealisti fu bloccata il 12 luglio, impedendo di marciare lungo Crumlin Road, verso gli Ardoyne Shops.
La decisione della polizia, in ottemperanza con la determinazione della Commissione Parate, provocò gravi disordini, con i lealisti che attaccarono i poliziotti.
La parata di settimana prossima si unirà alla marcia settimanale di protesta contro la decisione presa a luglio.
Lo scorso mese ci furono disordini anche nella zona di Royal Avenue, quando centinaia di lealisti lanciarono numerosi oggetti contro la PSNI.
Migliaia di contestatori si presentarono per protestare contro una parata anti-internamento indetta dai repubblicani che doveva attraversare il centro cittadino.
I lealisti attaccarono la polizia con fuochi d’artificio, pietre e altri oggetti causando il ferimento di dozzine di agenti PSNI.
IL presidente della Federazione della Polizia Terry Spence afferma che il sindacato, che raduna 7.000 agenti PSNI, è “molto preoccupato” per la prossima parata.
L’associazione dei commercianti (Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association) fa appello alla calma.
La Commissione Parate prenderà una decisione riguardo alla parata dei Loyal Peaceful Protesters.
Parades: 10,000 loyalist protesters to descend on Belfast city centre
Around 10,000 loyalist protesters plan to descend on Belfast city centre next week.
A large parade is due to take place on Saturday, September 21 organised by a group calling itself Loyal Peaceful Protesters.
It has notified the Parades Commission of plans for a parade consisting 20 bands and 5,000 marchers.
Organisers expect 5,000 supporters to turn out for the event.
Marchers plan to set off from City Hall at 2pm and make their way along Royal Avenue, North Street, Shankill Road and Woodvale Road.
The parade will finish at Woodvale Parade, the spot where a Loyal Order feeder parade was blocked on July 12, preventing it proceeding along the Crumlin Road, past the Ardoyne shops.
That sparked fierce rioting in the area with police coming under sustained attack from loyalists.
The upcoming parade is due to join an ongoing weekly protest march against the Twelfth decision.
There was also serious disorder on Royal Avenue last month when hundreds of loyalists pelted police with missiles.
Thousands of protesters had turned out against a republican anti-internment parade which had been due to make its way through the centre of the city.
Loyalists attacked police with missiles, smoke bombs and fireworks during a stand-off against the republican rally injuring dozens of police officers.
Police Federation chairman Terry Spence said the union, which represents 7,000 PSNI officers here, had “major concern” regarding the forthcoming parade.
The Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association has appealed for calm.
The Parades Commission will rule on the march at the beginning of next week.
