Si aspettano i dettagli per i nuovi scavi alla ricerca delle spoglie di un uomo ucciso e sepolto in un luogo segreto dall’IRA nel 1973
Aveva 21 anni quando scomparve dalla sua abitazione nella zona di falls Road a West Belfast.
Il gruppo istituito per ottenere informazioni sul luogo dove i corpi potrebbero essere sepolti dovrebbe rilasciare maggiori dettagli in seguito.
La consigliere di Moyle dello SDLP, catherine McCambridge, ritiene che la Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains (Commissione Indipendente per il Ritrovamento dei Resti delle Vittime) ha deciso di fare delle ricerche in un terreno nella zona di Waterfoot, vicino a Glenariff, nei Glens of Antrim.
La gente di quest’area spera che l’informazione ricevuta dalla Commissione sia accurata e che le spoglie possano essere recuperate in questa operazione a Waterfoot”, afferma.
La commissione ha guidato la scoperta di sei corpi e numerose ricerche da quando è stata istituita nel 1999 da un trattato tra il governo britannico e quello irlandese.
I resti ritrovati a luglio sono stati confermati essere quelli di Charlie Armstrong, il cinquantasettenne di Crossmaglen padre di cinque figli, scomparso mentre si recava a messa nel 1981.
A inizio di ottobre sono stati recuperate altre spoglie ritenute quelle del vicino di Armstrong, Gerry Evans, rinvenuti in un sito nella Contea di Louth.

Fresh ‘Disappeared’ dig for Peter Wilson expected
Details are expected to be announced of a fresh dig in Northern Ireland for the remains of a man believed murdered and secretly buried by the IRA in 1973.
He was aged 21 when he went missing from his home in the Falls Road area of west Belfast.
The group set up to obtain information on where bodies may be buried is expected to reveal more details later.
SDLP Moyle councillor Catherine McCambridge said she believed the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains had decided to search land in the Waterfoot area, near Glenariff in the Glens of Antrim.
“People in the area are hoping that the information which has been received by the Commission is accurate and that remains will be recovered following this operation in Waterfoot,” she said.
The commission has overseen the discovery of six bodies and numerous searches since it was set up in 1999 by treaty between the British and Irish governments.
Remains found in County Monaghan in July were confirmed as being those of Crossmaglen man Charlie Armstrong, a 57-year-old father-of-five who went missing on his way to Mass in 1981.
Earlier this month, human remains believed to be those of Mr Armstrong’s neighbour Gerry Evans were found at a site in County Louth.
