La ricerca di Columba McVeigh terminerà la prossima settimana, dopo il mancato ritrovamento di resti umani
Nuovi scavi sono cominciati a inizio anno presso Bragan Bog, dopo che la Commissione per il Ritrovamento dei Resti delle Vittime (Independent Commission For The Location Of Victims’ Remains – ICLVR) aveva ricevuto nuove informazioni.
Tuttavia le squadre di ICLVR si stanno preparando a lasciare la zona.
“Il programma di lavoro a Bragan sta giungendo ad una conclusione”, si legge in un comunicato della Commissione, pubblicato giovedì.
“Non abbiamo avuto successo nel localizzare i resti di Columba McVeigh”.
I precedenti scavi ebbero luogo in una palude poco oltre il confine irlandese, ma senza successo.
L’ultima ricerca ha visto il taglio di centinaia di alberi per liberare il sito in vista degli scavi e per permettere agli archeologi forensi di ispezionare le radici.
Gli investigatori che conducono le ricerche per i cosiddetti Disappeared (gli Scomparsi) hanno lanciato un appello per chiunque abbia nuove informazioni.
“Tutte le ricerche effettuate dalla ICLVR sono guidate dalle informazioni ricevute e vogliamo appellarci a chiunque possiede notizie su questo o sugli altri casi dei Disappeared di contattate la Commissione,” prosegue il comunicato.
“Tutte le informazioni saranno trattate con la massima riservatezza e non potranno essere utilizzato per scopi diversi dalla localizzazione dei resti delle vittime.

Columba McVeigh search ‘unsuccessful’
The search for Disappeared victim Columba McVeigh in Co Monaghan will end next week after no human remains were found.
Fresh digs began at Bragan Bog earlier this year after new information was passed on to the Independent Commission For The Location Of Victims’ Remains (ICLVR).
However the ICLVR teams are now preparing to leave the site.
“The work programme at Bragan is now drawing to a conclusion,” said a statement from the ICLVR, released on Thursday.
“We have not been successful in locating the remains of Columba McVeigh.”
Previous digs have taken place on nearby bogland just across the Irish border for the teenager, but to avail.
The latest search saw hundreds of mature trees on the bog were cut down to open the site up for excavation and allow forensic archaeologists to inspect roots.
Investigators leading the searches for Northern Ireland’s so-called Disappeared have appealed for anyone with new information to come forward.
“All searches undertaken by the ICLVR are information led and we would appeal for anyone who has information on this or any other disappeared cases to contact the Commission,” the statement continued.
“All information will be treated in the strictest confidence and it cannot be used for any purpose other than locating the remains of victims.
