Dodds: I want to meet Colonel Gaddafi

La famiglia DoddsDUP deputy leader Nigel Dodds has asked for a face-to-face meeting with Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi to seek compensation for IRA victims.

The Executive minister wants to lead a delegation to Tripoli, which could include Scottish MP Andrew McKinlay who has also campaigned on the long-running issue.

Mr Dodds’ request comes after reports the Libyan authorities have paid more than $2bn into a US compensation fund for the relatives of terror attacks.

Libya has admitted its role in supporting terrorism and during the Troubles supplied guns and a large quantity of explosives to the IRA.

Mr Dodds and Thurrock Labour MP Mr McKinlay met Prime Minister Gordon Brown on the issue several months ago. Mr Dodds yesterday accused the Government of “selling victims short”.

“The very fact that they have established a $2.7bn fund to compensate American victims of terrorist acts they supported is a clear admission of culpability,” he said.
