La numero due dell’SDLP ha detto che il partito dovrebbe pensare di andare all’opposizione a Stormont
Durante la sua partecipazione all’assemblea nazionale dell’SDLP ad Armagh, ha affermato che il partito “perderebbe alcuni posti lasciando il governo” ma restando nell’Esecutivo “perderebbe la sua anima”.
Alla domanda se lo SDLP dovrebbe andare all’oppsozione, la parlamentare per Upper Bann ha detto che il partito dovrebbe pensare a tale opzione.
Secondo la numero due nazionalista il partito non dovrebbe “lasciare il governo la prossima settimana o il prossimo mese” ma dovrebbe pensare a dove sta andando a finire.
Ha anche chiesto se il partito aveva bisogno “di maggior libertà di agire”.
Il ministro dell’Ambiente Alex Attwood è l’unico ministro espresso dal partito nazionalista a Stormont.
La conferenza annuale dell’SDLP è iniziata venerdì ad Armagh e si conclude sabato pomeriggio con il discordo del leader del partito Alasdair McDonnell.

Dolores Kelly says SDLP ‘should think about opposition’

The deputy leader of the SDLP says her party should be thinking about going into opposition at Stormont.
At her party’s annual conference in Armagh, she said the SDLP would “lose a few jobs by leaving government but could lose its soul” if it stays.
Questioning whether the SDLP should go into opposition the Upper Bann MLA said the party must think about its options.
She said the party should not “walk out of government next week or next month” but should be thinking about where all this is going.
She also questioned whether the party needed “more freedom to act “.
The environment minister Alex Attwood is the party’s sole member of the Executive.
The SDLP conference began on Friday in Armagh and ends on Saturday afternoon with a speech from party leader Alasdair McDonnell.
