Il partito ha insistito che il consigliere si dimise “senza pregiudizio” più di un anno fa, dopo essere stato interrogato dalla polizia a proposito del presunto abuso su un bambino avvenuto alla fine degli anno Settanta. Un fascicolo è stato consegnato al Public Prosecution Service dalla PSNI ed è “in considerazione attiva”.
Comunque il consiglio ha riferito ieri sera di non aver ricevuto alcuna notifica, né dal consigliere e né dallo Sinn Fein, della sospensione. Nonostante fosse stato sospeso dal partito, il rapprestante eletto ha partecipato a due riunioni consiliari nelle vesti di consigliere shinner.
L’uomo è ancora indicato come consigliere nel sito del partito.
“Alcune inchieste devono essere lanciate su questo argomento. Lo Sinn Fein avrebbe dovuto informare il consiglio che quel consigliere non rappresentava il partito”, ha riferito un consigliere del DUP.
Sinn Fein questoned about suspension
The party has insisted that the councillor was stood down “without prejudice” more than a year ago after being quizzed by detectives about the alleged abuse of a child dating back to the late 1970s. A file has been forwarded by the PSNI to the PPS and is “under active consideration”.
However, the council concerned said last night it has not received notification from the councillor or Sinn Fein about the suspension. Despite being suspended from the party, the elected representative attended two council meetings as a Sinn Fein councillor.
The individual is also still registered as a Sinn Fein councillor on the party’s website.
“Some sort of an inquiry needs to be launched into this. Sinn Fein should have informed the council that this councillor was not representing the party,” a DUP council member said.
