Due uomini sono stati feriti alle gambe in un attacco di stile paramilitare nel quartiere di Creggan a Derry
La polizia, intervenuta per aiutare le vittime, è stata attaccata da giovani che lanciavano vari oggetti, compresa una bottiglia molotov.
I due feriti sono stati trasportati in ospedale, dove le loro condizioni sono giudicate stabili.
Pat Ramsey, parlamentare dello SDLP, ha condannato i responsabili delle aggressioni.
“Questa zona ha visto un incremento degli incidenti violenti negli ultimi mesi, ma questi attacchi senza senso e barbari devono terminare”, ha affermato.
“Non c’è posto in una società civile per qualsiasi forma di attacco punitivo. Non utilizziamo la legge della giungla qui a Derry o in altra parte del Nord.
“Non importa quali siano le circostanze degli attacchi di oggi. Nessuno ha il diritto di agire come giudice, giuria e boia.
“I responsabili non hanno sostegno nella nostra comunità e ancora una volta chiedo a chi ha qualsiasi informazione di fornirla alla polizia.
“Questa è la maniera migliore per mandare un messaggio ai vigilantes responsabili: le vostre azioni non saranno tollerate”.

Two men shot in paramilitary-style attack
Two men have been shot in the legs in a paramilitary-style attack in the Creggan area of Londonderry.
Police trying to help the victims came under attack from youths throwing missiles, including a petrol bomb.
Both men were taken to hospital where their conditions are said to be stable.
SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey has condemned those responsible for the shootings.
“This area has seen an increasing number of violent incidents over recent months but these senseless, barbaric attacks must stop” he said.
“There is no place in civilised society for any form of punishment attacks. We do not operate the law of jungle here in Derry or indeed anywhere else in the North.
“No matter what the circumstances of tonight’s attacks, no one has the right to act as judge, jury and would-be executioner.
“Those responsible have no support in our community and once again I would appeal to anyone with any information to pass it onto police.
“This is the best way to send a message to the vigilante thugs responsible that their actions will not be tolerated.”
