Un escavatore è stato utilizzato per rubare un ATM a Crossmaglen nelle prime ore di sabato
L’escavatore è stato quindi scaricato e usato per asportare l’apparecchiatura dalle mura della Bank of Ireland.
I veicoli sono poi stati incendiati dai ladri, che sono fuggiti a bordo di un furgone con il cassone.
L’area è stato chiusa al traffico.
La consigliere dello SDLP Geraldine Donnelly si dice amareggiata per quest’ultimo attacco.
“Sono dispiaciuta sia avvenuto nella nostra città, questo è davvero un attacco contro la comunità, questa era una macchina che usavamo tutti.
“Mi sembra difficile pensare, dopo tutti i i macchinari rubati, che non sia stato trovato un sistema per evitare questo genere di attività”.
La polizia rivela che il trattore e l’escavatore sono stati rubati ad Ardee, nella Contea di Louth, e la Gardaí (la polizia della Repubblica) sta aiutando nelle indagini.
Gli investigatori di Newry chiedono a chiunque abbia visto un trattore verde John Deere o un escavatore arancione Fiat Hitachi, di contattarli.
Fino ad ora sono 13 gli ATM (Automated Teller Machine) rubati nella provincia da marzo 2009.
Una ricompensa di 25.000 sterline è stata offerta da Link, la società produttrice, per chiunque possa essere d’aiuto nel catturare ii responsabili di questi attacchi.

Digger used to steal ATM
A digger has been used to steal an ATM in Crossmaglen early on Saturday morning.
The digger was then off loaded and used to pull the machine from the wall of the Bank of Ireland.
The vehicles were then set on fire and the robbers made off in a flat bed van.
The area has been closed to traffic.
Local SDLP councillor Geraldine Donnelly said she is angered by this latest attack.
” I am disappointed saddened that this has happened in our town, this is really an attack on the community, this is the machine we all use.”
“It is hard to believe at this point with the number of machines that have been stolen a system hasn’t been devised to deter this sort of activity.”
Police say the tractor and digger were stolen from Ardee in Co Louth and Gardi are assisting dectectives here with their investigation.
Detectives in Newry have appealed for anyone who saw a green John Deere tractor or orange Fiat Hitachi track digger to contact them.
So far 13 ATM’s have been stolen across the province since march last year.
A reward of up to £25,000 has been offered by cash machine operator link for anyone who can help catch those responsible for targeting cash machines in Northern Ireland.
