Esercito neutralizza bomba lealista ad Antrim

British army defuses bomb outside NIreland house

2008/08/artificiere.jpgBELFAST, Northern Ireland – British army experts have defused a small bomb left outside a house in a Catholic section of the Northern Ireland town of Antrim. An anti-Catholic extremist group claimed responsibility.

Thursday’s security operation in Antrim, west of Belfast, followed a telephone warning from a caller claiming to represent the Real Ulster Freedom Fighters.

Police say they suspect that the bomb planter was a member of the Ulster Defense Association, the major outlawed Protestant paramilitary group in Northern Ireland. The UDA is supposed to be observing a cease-fire but its members sometimes use cover names, most commonly “Ulster Freedom Fighters,” when claiming acts of violence.
