Un’esplosione controllata è stata eseguita sul furgone che ha provocato un allarme bomba nel villaggio di Clady, nella Contea di Tyrone
L’allarme sicurezza è iniziato intorno alle 21 di mercoledì, quando un furgone Renault grigio fu abbandonato sul Clady Bridge, il ponte che attraversa il fiume Finn nella Contea di Donegal.
Gli abitanti della cittadina si sono insospettiti e hanno isolato il ponte, mentre veniva avvertita la polizia.
Poco dopo la PSNI ricevette una telefonata, secondo la quale nel furgone ci sarebbe stato un ordigno del peso di 600 libbre (275 kg circa).
“Automobilisti e pedoni stavano ancora passando a fianco al furgone dopo il suo abbandono, ed alcuni giovani guardavano al suo interno”, ha detto a UTV Gareth Wilkinson.
La cittadina è stata in seguito cordonata dalla polizia, pesantemente armata. Alcune strade nella Contea di Donegal sono state chiuse dalla Gardai.
Gli artificieri sono stati chiamati sulla scena, ma le forze di sicurezza hanno agito con molta prudenza, per timore di un secondo ordigno lasciato nella zona.
Giovedì, Clady era ancora in fase di stallo. Le case non sono state evacuate, ma tutti i negozi e gli uffici nella cittadina erano rimasti chiusi.
“Metà della cittadina è tagliata fuori. La comunità è stata colpita, ed è stata colpita duramente oggi”, ha detto in consigliere indipendente Gerard Foley.
I repubblicani sono stati accusati per l’allarme bomba.
“Qual è lo scopo di tutto ciò?” chiede il parlamentare shinner Pat Doherty. “Qual è il valore? Non c’è nessun valore visibile, nessuno scopo. Non hanno mandato, non hanno un progetto che spieghi gli obiettivi e l’intera faccenda è completamente senza senso”, ha aggiunto Doherty.
“E’ molto preoccupante per me e per l’intera comunità che questo genere di attività stia ritornando nelle nostre strade”, ha riferito a Utv il consigliere dell’Ulster Unionist, Derek Hussey.

Controlled explosion on Clady van
A controlled explosion has been carried out on a vehicle at the centre of a bomb alert in the Co. Tyrone village of Clady.
The security alert began at around 9pm on Wednesday night when a Grey Renault van was abandoned at the Clady Bridge which crosses the River Finn into Co Donegal.
Local people became suspicious and decided to cordon off the bridge themselves as the police were called.
Shortly afterwards the PSNI received a telephone warning claiming that the van contained a 600lb bomb.
“Motorists and pedestrians were still passing by the van after it was abandoned and some young people were looking into it”, UTV’s Gareth Wilkinson said.
The village was later cordoned off by heavily armed police. Roads were also closed in Co. Donegal by armed Gardai.
The bomb squad was called in but the security forces proceeded with caution, fearful that there might be a secondary device planted in the area.
On Thursday, Clady was brought to a standstill. Homes weren’t evacuated but all business in the small village were closed.
“Half of the village is completely cut down. That’s the community here that’s been hit, and it’s been hit hard today,” Independent Councillor Gerard Foley told UTV.
Dissident Republicans have been blamed for the alert.
“What is the purpose of it?” Sinn Fein west Tyrone MP, Pat Doherty, asked. “What is the value of it? There’s no value that we can see, no purpose. They have no mandate, no agenda that they’re explaining to anybody and the whole thing is totally senseless,” Mr Doherty added.
“It’s very concerning for me, for the entire community that this sort of activity is returning to our street,” UUP Councillor Derek Hussey told UTV.
