Esplosione davanti a stazione PSNI a North Belfast

Un’indagine è in conrso dopo una piccola esplosione avvenuta vicino ad una stazione di polizia a North Belfast

L’esplosione è avvenuta mercoledì mattina sul retro della stazione di Old Park.

Un portavoce della PSNI ha confermato che l’esplosione ha provocato piccoli danni alla recinzione perimetrale e che gli artificieri dell’esercito stanno adesso esaminando la scena.

Una trentina di abitazioni sono state evacuate per precauzione.

Almab Maginness, parlamentare per North Belfast, ha condannato i responsabili dell’attacco, puntando subito il dito contro i repubblicani.

“Condanno questo attacco senza senso. E’ chiaramente parte di una campagna repubblicana per esacerbare la tensione nella comunità e destabilizzare la situazione politica”, ha affermato il politico dello SDLP.

“Sfortunatamente questi attacchi prendono vigore con l’incertezza politica che esiste al momento e questo incidente deve spronare i politici a siglare un accordo per il futuro dell’Irlanda del Nord”.

A inizio settimana, alcuni colpi di arma da fuoco sono stati esplosi contro la stazione di polizia di Bessbrook, in South Armagh. L’attacco seguiva due altri simili contro la stazione di Crossmaglen.

Probe into police station explosion

AN investigation is underway following a small explosion near a north Belfast police station.

The blast took place at the rear of the Old Park station early on Wednesday morning.

A police spokesperson confirmed the explosion caused minor damage to perimeter fencing and that Army technical officers were now examining the scene.

A number of surrounding properties have also been evacuated as a precaution.

North Belfast MLA Alban Maginness has condemned those responsible for the attack, blaming dissident elements.

“I utterly condemn this senseless attack. It is clearly part and parcel of a dissident republican campaign to exacerbate tension in the community and to destabilise the political situation even further,” the SDLP man said.

“Unfortunately these dissident attacks are taking advantage of the political uncertainty that exists at the moment and this incident should spur politicians on to reach an agreement on the way forward for Northern Ireland.”

Earlier this week, shots were fired at Bessbrook police station in south Armagh. This attack followed two separate shootings at a station in Crossmaglen earlier this month.
