Un ex ufficiale della SAS occuperà il posto di ministro britannico al Northern Ireland Office
Il parlamentate dei Tory Andrew Robathan è stato trasferito dal suo incarico di sottosegretario al Ministero della DIfesa per rimpiazzare Mike Penning, spostato al DIpartimento del Lavoro e delle Pensioni in un rimpasto del governo di David Cameron.
Si pensava che anche il Segretario di Stato per l’Irlanda del Nord, Theresa Villiers, potesse essere trasferita, ma le voci si sono dimostrate infondate.
Robathan è un ex militare della Coldstream Guard. La sua biografia parlamentare elenca l’Irlanda del Nord come una delle cinque aree di interesse.
Il nordirlandese Michael Moore, dei Liberal Democrat, ha perso il suo posto di Segretario per la Scozia, sostituito dal più combattivo Alistair Carmichael che controllerà la posizione cruciale durante il periodo che precede il referendum sull’indipendenza scozzese.
Anche un altro Lib Dem, Jeremy Browne, ha perso il suo posto al ministero dell’Interno. Verrà sostituito dal ministro ai Trasporti Norman Baker. Browne – della corrente di destra del partito – viene indicato da più parti come futuro leader dei Liberal Democratici..
David Cameron ha evitato modifiche al suo gabinetto – ma ha avallato la promozione di parlamentati donne, comprese Esther McVey e Nicky Morgan, divenute segretarie economiche al Tesoro.
Nel frattempo, nel corso del rimpasto laburista, il Segretario di Stato Ombra, Vernon Coaker, è stato promosso a segretario ombra alla Difesa. Nel suo ruolo è stato sostituito da Ivan Lewis.

Ex-SAS man moved to Northern Ireland Office
A former SAS officer has been appointed as Secretary of State Theresa Villiers’ understudy in the NIO.
Tory MP Andrew Robathan was moved from his post as junior minister at the Ministry of Defence to replace Mike Penning, who moved to the Department of Work and Pensions in a Government reshuffle.
There had been speculation that Ms Villiers may herself be moved as part of the reshuffle, but that proved to be unfounded.
Mr Robathan is a former Coldstream Guard. His Parliamentary biography lists Northern Ireland as one of five areas of interest.
Elsewhere, the Ulster-born Liberal Democrat Michael Moore lost his post as Scottish Secretary, with the more combative Alistair Carmichael taking over in a position crucial during the run-up to the Scottish independence referendum.
Another Lib Dem, Home Office minister Jeremy Browne, also lost his job as Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg wielded the knife while David Cameron moved to promote more women and northern MPs. In one of the biggest shocks so far, Mr Browne — on the right of the party and touted by some as a future leader — was replaced by Transport Minister Norman Baker.
Mr Cameron avoided changes to his Cabinet – but handed promotions to women MPs including Esther McVey and Nicky Morgan, who becomes economic secretary to the Treasury.
Meanwhile, as part of a Labour reshuffle yesterday, shadow secretary of state Vernon Coaker was promoted to shadow defence secretary. He has been replaced by Ivan Lewis.
