Famiglia Devine: “Il RAAD non ha rispetto”

L’ottantunenne madre dei due volontari IRA assassinati dalla SAS ha accusato il gruppo Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) di “mancare di rispetto” alla sua famiglia

Patsy Devine ha fatto il commento dopo i numerosi attacchi con pipe bomb contro la sua abitazione avvenuti lo scorso anno, dichiarando responsabile il gruppo RAAD.

La pensionata, i cui figli Michael e David furono uccisi dalla SAS nel 1985, afferma anche che il RAAD ha respinto le richieste di un incontro con la sua famiglia per parlare degli attacchi.

Le sue affermazioni giungono dopo la richiesta al RAAD da parte del parlamentare dello SInn Fein per West Tyrone, Pat Doherty, di smettere di utilizzare la parola “repubblicano”.

La signora Devine ha riferito: “Hanno dimostrato verso di noi una completa mancanza di rispetto. Abbiamo agito attraverso intermediari per ottenere un incontro con il RAAD per sapere il motivo degli attacchi contro la nostra famiglia, ma hanno declinato il nostro invito. Quando siamo riusciti ad ottenere un incontro, abbiamo ricevuto una telefonata un’ora prima della scadenza dell’ultimatum nella quale il RAAD affermava di non volerci incontrare.

Ha proseguito affermando di non aver mai ricevuto spiegazioni per gli attacchi contro la loro abitazione. “Nessuno è mai venuto a dirci il motivo per cui ci attaccano. Penso sia una rmancanza di rispetto e concordo con Pat Doherty quando dice che stanno rovinando il nome del repubblicanese. Non hanno rispetto per le famiglie repubblicane e per i repubblicani morti”, ha affermato.

La pensionata ha anche riferito che la famiglia nel corso degli anni ha subito fotografia. “Da quando Michael e David furono assassinati abiamo sempre subito molestie. Non avrei mai pensato che a questo punto avremmo dovuto affrontare grupi che si fanno chiamare repubblicano”. ha affermato.

‘RAAD have no respect’ – Devine family

The 81 year-old mother of two Strabane IRA volunteers shot dead by the SAS has accused vigilante group Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) of showing a “lack of respect” to her family.

Patsy Devine made comments after a number of pipebomb attacks on her home in the last year, claiming RAAD were responsible for the attacks.
The pensioner, whose sons, Michael and David, were shot dead by the SAS in 1985, also said RAAD have refused requests to meet with her family to discuss the attacks.

Her remarks follow a call from West Tyrone Sinn Féin MP Pat Doherty for RAAD to stop using the name ‘republican.’

Mrs Devine said: “They have shown us a complete lack of respect. We have gone through intermediaries to set up a meeting with RAAD to talk about why they are attacking my family but they declined to meet us. When a meeting was eventually set up we got a call an hour before we were due to meet saying that they had decided not to meet the family,” she said.

Mrs Devine also said she has never received an explanation for the attack on her home. “No one has ever come and said why it happened. I think it is very disrespectful and agree with Pat Doherty that they are damaging the name of republicanism. They have no respect for republican families and no respect for republican dead,” she said.

The pensioner also said her family faced years of harrassment in the past. “From the time Michael and David were killed we faced harassment from the police and the British army. I never imagined that at this stage we would be facing harassment from people calling themselves republicans,” she said.
