Famiglia Doherty “felice” per incontro con Lord Carlile

La famiglia di Kieran Doherty, vittima della Real IRA, si è detta felice per i risultati dell’incontro con il consulente governativo per la sicurezza, avvenuto sul luogo in cui Doherty fu ucciso

Lord Carlile ha ascoltato le preoccupazioni della famiglia sul ruolo giocato dall’MI5 negli eventi che circondano la morte del loro caro, avvenuta a Derry lo scorso febbraio.

Doherty fu sequestrato, denudato, legato e infine la Real IRA gli sparò. Il corpo del trentunenne fu gettato in una stradina di campagna poco fuori città.

Suo zio, vinnie Coyle, ha preso parte all’incontro con Lord Carlile avvenuto lunedì pomeriggio. Non ha riferito quanto detto nel corso del colloquio, ma ha affermato a Utv che la famiglia è “felice” di quanto ascoltato.

“Abbiamo avuto una discussione franca e completa con Lord Carlile, che ha ascoltato tutti i nostri rilievi”, ha affermato.

“E’ sorprendentemente simbolico che l’incontro sia avvenuto nel luogo dell’omicidio.

“Ritengo che la famiglia sia felice, l’unico problema è ce non abbiamo gli stessi poteri del Police Ombudsan”.

La Real IRA ha affermato che Kieran Doherty era un membro del gruppo, ma era stato ucciso per il suo coinvolgimento nel commercio di droga. La famiglia Doherty ha sempre respinto tutte le accuse.

Hanno detto che Doherty aveva riferito al Derry Journal di un tentativo di reclutamento come informatore da parte dell’MI5 , poche settimane prima venisse ucciso.

“La famiglia Doherty è assolutamente convinta che è stato moltesto per quattro mesi prima della sua morta”, aggiunge Coyle. “Dopo la sua morte sono state sollevate numerose domande”.

La famiglia dice di aver visto l’incontro come il primo passo per il raggiungimento di un’inchiesta del Police Ombudsman sul presunto ruolo avuto dall’MI5 nell’omicidio.

Doherty family ‘happy’ with Carlile talks

The family of Real IRA murder victim Kieran Doherty say they are happy with the outcome of their meeting with the Government security advisor, which took place at the spot where Doherty was killed.

Lord Carlile listened to the family’s concerns that MI5 played a role in the events surrounding the murder of the dissident Republican in Londonderry last February.

Doherty was abducted, stripped, tied up and shot by the Real IRA. The 31-year-old’s body was dumped on a rural road just outside the city overlooking his home.

His uncle, Vinnie Coyle, took part in the meeting with Lord Carlile on Monday afternoon. He did not disclose what was said, but told UTV that the family was “happy” with the talks.

“We had a very full and frank discussion with Lord Carlile, he took all of our points on board,” he said.

“It is amazingly symbolic that the meeting took place at the scene of his murder.

“I do believe that the family are happy, The only problem we have is that he wouldn’t have the same powers as a police Ombudsman.”

The Real IRA claim Kieran Doherty was a member of the terror group, but said he had been killed for his involvement in the drugs trade. Doherty’s family has rejected the allegations.

They say he had told the Derry Journal that MI5 had tried to recruit him as an informer just weeks before he was murdered.

“The Doherty family are absolutely convinced he was harassed for some four months before his murder,” Mr Coyle added. “After he was killed it raised a huge amount of questions.”

The family said they view the meeting as a the first step towards their goal of setting up a Police Ombudsman’s investigation into the alleged role played by MI5 surrounding the killing.
