Famiglie del Bloody Sunday in lizza per il premio “People of the Year”

Le famiglie dei tredici civili disarmati assassinati dai paracadutisti dell’esercito britannico a Derry quasi 40 anni fa, potrebbero essere tra i favoriti del premio People Of The Year di quest’anno.

La cerimonia, organizzata da Rehab e sponsorizzata da Quinn-Healthcare, verrà trasmessa da Rté l’11 settembre.

Le candidature per il premio si sono chiuse il 15 giugno, il giorno in cui è stato pubblicato il Rapporto Saville sul Bloody Sunday, esonerando da qualsiasi colpa le persone uccise e ferite nel Bogside il 30 gennaio 1972.

Si è appreso che ricercatori del programma sono stati in contatto con i membri delle famiglie del Bloody Sunday.

Qualora le famiglie vincessero il premio, verrebbe messo in mostra presso il Free Derry Museum.

Bloody Sunday families ‘in line for award’

The families of the thirteen unarmed men shot dead by British army paratroopers in Londonderry almost forty years ago are understood to be among the favourites to win this year’s People Of The Year Award.

The ceremony, which is organised by Rehab and sponsored by Quinn-Healthcare, is to be broadcast on RTE on September 11.

Nominations for the award closed on June 15, the day when the Saville Report into the Bloody Sunday killings was published, exonerating those killed and wounded in Derry’s Bogside on January 30, 1972.

It is understood that researchers from the programme have been in contact with members of the Bloody Sunday families.

It is believed that, if the families do win the award, it will be placed in the Free Derry Museum.
