Le famiglie delle vittime del massacro lealista di Loughinisland incontrano oggi il Police Ombudsman

Le famiglie avanzeranno le loro preoccupazioni per il ritardo nella pubblicazione del rapporto sul massacro.

Sei uomini furono uccisi da due paramilitari lealisti della UVF che aprirono il fuoco all’interno del The Heights Bar nel 1994.

Caitriona Ruane, parlamentare di South Down, ha detto che i ritardi sono stati “lunghi e difficili” per le famiglie. La parlamentare dello Sinn Fein accompagnerà le famiglie all’incontro.

A novembre l’ufficio del Police Ombudsman affermò che il rapporto conclusivo dell’indagine sarebbe stato pubblicato ad inizio anno.

Parlando prima dell’incontro la Ruane ha affermato che il suo ruolo sarà di sostegno alle famiglie nell’esprimere “la profonda preoccupazione per il lungo ritardo” nella pubblicazione del rapporto.

“E’ stato un periodo molto lungo e difficile per le famiglie che sono frustrate e arrabbiate per i ritardi”, prosegue la parlamentare.

“Le famiglie di Loughinisland hanno vissuto negli anni con dignitosa pazienza da quando i loro cari sono stati così brutalente uccisi.

“Meritano di essere trattati con il massimo rispetto e ritengo sia loro diritto conoscere i risultati di questo rapporto senza ulteriori ritardi”.

Loughinisland families to meet Police Ombudsman

Families of the victims of the Loughinisland massacre are to meet the Police Ombudsman on Friday.

They are expected to express concern over the delay in the publication of a report into the killings.

Six men were killed when two UVF gunmen opened fire in The Heights Bar in the village in the summer of 1994.

MLA for South Down Caitriona Ruane, who said the delays have been “long and difficult” for the families, will acccompany them to the meeting.

In November, the Police Ombudsman‘s office said its report into the investigation would be published early in the new year.

Speaking in advance of the meeting Ms Ruane said she would be supporting the families in expressing their “deep concern about the long delay” in the publication of the report.

“It has been a very long and difficult time for the families who are frustrated and angry at the delays,” she said.

“The Loughinisland families have conducted themselves with dignified patience throughout the years since their loved ones were so brutally murdered.

“They deserve to be treated with the utmost respect and I believe that they are entitled to know the findings of this report without any further delay.”
