Giovedì Donnelly è stato condannato a sette mesi di carcere nel corso dell’appello contro l’incarcerazione per l’aggressione ad un membro della PSNI. Nel corso dell’incidente Donnelly ha subito la frattura in quattro punti del braccio.
Il gruppo repubblicano afferma: “Questa sentenza mostra chiaramente che i tribunali stanno svolgendo la loro parte nell’incarcerare i repubblicani. Gary Donnelly fu aggredito ed è finito con un braccio rotto e con la più dura condanna per questo tipo di accuse.
“E’ ridicolo che la RUC/PSNI possa andare in giro ad aggredire i repubblicani e quindi trascinarli in tribunale dove vengono incarcerati sebbene siano stati assaliti. Quando il caso è stato sentito in origine, il giudice ha descritto l’incidente come il gradino più basso della scala e Gary Donnelly è finito con questa sentenza. Questa condanna conferma solo che i repubblicani non possono aspettarsi giustizia quando si trovano nei tribunali britannici”.
L’incidente avvenne quando Donnelly fu fermato da una pattuglia della polizia in Foyle Street, Derry, a novembre 2007. In tribunale è stato riferito che la sua ferita era “brutta, grave e dolorosa”. Durante i due processi, i testimoni della polizia anno detto di non poter spiegare come Donnelly si ruppe il braccio.

Donnelly sentence ‘savage’ – 32 CSM
On Thursday Donnelly was sentenced to seven months in prison as a result of his appeal against his conviction for assaulting a PSNI Inspector. Donnelly got a broken arm in the incident.
The dissident republican group said: “This sentence clearly shows that the courts are going to play their part in imprisoning republicans. Gary Donnelly was assaulted and ended up with a broken arm yet he gets the heaviest sentence that you can for this sort of charge.
“It is ridiculous that the RUC/PSNI can go around attacking republicans then drag them into court where they get imprisoned as well as assaulted. When this was originally heard the judge described the incident as at the lower end of the scale yet Gary Donnelly ends up with this sentence. This sentence only confirms that republicans can expect no justice when they go before British courts.”
The incident happened when Donnelly was stopped by a police patrol in Foyle Street in November 2007. The court heard that his injury was “nasty, serious and painful”. During the two trials police witnesses said they could not account for how Donnelly’s arm was broken.
