Foster: il DUP impegnato nella devolution

Il primo ministro ad interim Arlene Foster ha dato assicurazioni che il Democratic Unionist Party è impegnato a risolvere le questioni importanti, tra cui il trasferimento dei poteri di polizia e giustizia.

Ha insistito sull’impegno del DUP a lavorare insieme allo Sinn Fein per raggiungere tali obiettivi.

Su Morning Ireland di Radio Rté la Foster, che sta sostituendo il leader del DUP Peter Robinson mentre si confronta con le accuse alla propria integrità e passa il tempo con la moglie ammalata,ha riferito di non aspettarsi di occupare quella poltrona per lungo tempo.

Sempre su Morning Ireland, il ministro degli Esteri irlandese Michéal Martin ha detto di non voler speculare sulla crisi che circonda la temporanea partenza di Peter Robinson, ma gli ostacoli per il raggiungimento di un accordo per la devolution non sono insormontabili.

Martin ed il Segretario di Stato Shaun Woodward si incontreranno oggi pomeriggio.

Ieri sera il Taoiseach Brian Cowen ha affermato di augurarsi che i colloqui tra i due partiti possano prendere slancio nei prossimi giorni.

Anche Shaun Woodward si è mostrato ottimista.

Foster: DUP committed to devolution

Acting Northern Ireland First Minister Arlene Foster has given assurances that the Democratic Unionist Party is committed to resolving the outstanding issues involving devolution of policing and justice powers.

She stressed that the DUP was also committed to working with Sinn Féin to achieve this.

On RTÉ Radio’s Morning Ireland, Ms Foster, who is standing in for DUP leader Peter Robinson while he deals with allegations about his integrity and spends time with his ill wife, said she does not expect to be in the position for long.

Also on Morning Ireland, Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin said he would not speculate on the crisis surrounding Peter Robinson’s temporary departure as First Minister, but said obstacles to achieving agreement on the devolution of justice and policing were not insurmountable.

Mr Martin and Northern Ireland Secretary Shaun Woodward are to meet tonight.

Last night Taoiseach Brain Cowen said that he hoped that talks between the two parties would bring swift progress within days.

Mr Woodward was also optimistic.
