Mercoledì 23 luglio Francis Mackey, Peter Fitzsimmons e Martin Rafferty si sono imbarcati su un volo verso il Canada per un tour di sei giorni.
Appena arrivati al Pearson International Airport di Toronto, i tre repubblicani sono stati chiamati da parte, interrogati e gli è stato comunicato che non potevano entrare nel paese.
Attualmente sono detenuti in prigione, in attesa di essere deportati in Irlanda. Peter Fitzsimmons è trattenuto nella prigione di massima sicurezza di Maplehearst Detention Centre, creata per i detenuti in attesa di giudizio.
Se i repubblicani contesteranno il trattamento e chiederanno un’udienza in tribunale, gli è stato detto che verranno trattenuti per massimo 15 giorni in custodia cautelare.
Il 32 County Sovereignty Movement non è un’organizzazione illegale in Canada, quindi questo comportamento è chiaramente motivato politicamente ed è il tentativo di mettere a tacere e fermare il 32 County Sovereignty Movement dal comunicare a tutti che nulla è cambiato dopo la firma dell’Accordo del Venerdì Santo e che la principale causa del conflitto non è stata affrontata: la sovranità nazionale irlandese.
Questa è una diretta violazione della libertà di parola.
Ci sarà una protesta presso l’Ambasciata canadese a Dublino, questa sera alle ore 19.30

32 CSM: protest at the Canadian Embassy in Dublin
On Wednesday morning (23rd July), Francie Mackey, Peter Fitzsimons and Martin Rafferty boarded a plane to Canada to embark on a 6-day long speaking tour.
Upon arriving in Pearson International Airport, the three were taken aside, interrogated, and told that they were not entering the country.
They are currently being held in prison awaiting deportation back to Ireland. Peter is currently being held in Maplehearst Detention Centre, which is a maximum security prison for those awaiting trial.
If they contest this and have a hearing they were told that they would be held in remand for up to two weeks.
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement are not a prescribed organisation in Canada so this is clearly politically motivated and an attempt to silence and stop the 32 County Sovereignty Movement from getting its message out and to explain to people nothing has changed since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement and that the root cause of conflict has not been addressed, and that is – the violation of Irish National Sovereignty.
This is a direct violation of freedom of speech.
There will be a protest taking place at the Canadian Embassy in Dublin this evening at 7.30
