“Un fusto di birra con cavi elettrici” viene esaminato dagli artificieri dell’esercito nella Contea di Fermanagh
L’oggetto sospetto è stato scoperto abbandonato lungo Clogh Road a Rosslea, dopo una telefonata di avvertimento ricevuta nelle prime ore di mercoledì.
Le forze di sicurezza sono intervenute poco dopo l’1 di notte.
Alcune abitazioni sono state evacuate e la strada è stata chiusa al traffico.
Il parlamentare Tom Elliott ha spiegato che il presunto ordigno è stato trovato vicino ad una chiesa.
“Si trova vicino alla chiesa di Clogh, una Chiesa d’Irlanda proprio al confine con la Repubblica. Mi hanno riferito che c’è un oggetto proprio vicino a quella zona”, ha riferito il politico dell’UUP.
“Questo provoca significativi disagi per chi vive in quella zona e so che alcune persone sono già state spostate dalle loro case. È un completo peccato che queste persone siano vittime solo perché qualcuno non vuole che le nostre comunità vivano insieme”.
L’allarme arriva dopo il ritrovamento, avvenuto venerdì scorso, di un fusto di birra contenente 60 kg di esplosivo scoperto in una macchina abbandonata nella zona di Derrylin Road a Fermanagh.
Il gruppo repubblicano Óglaigh na hÉireann ha rivendicato la responsabilità per quell’ordigno, che era destinato ad esplodere al Lough Erne Resort, dove questa estate si terrà il vertice del G8.
Un comunicato della PSNI riferisce: “La polizia sta continuando a gestire l’allarme sicurezza nella zona di CLogh Road a Rosslea a seguito della scoperta di un oggetto sospetto nella zona.
“Due case sono state evacuate. Non ci sono altri dettagli al momento”.

‘Beer keg’ examined in Fermanagh alert
A “beer keg with wires sticking out of it” is being examined by the army bomb squad at the centre of a security alert in Co Fermanagh.
It is understood the suspicious object was discovered abandoned along the Clogh Road in Rosslea, following a telephone bomb warning in the early hours of Wednesday.
Security forces have been at the scene since around 1am.
A number of nearby homes were evacuated overnight and the road has been closed to traffic.
Local MLA Tom Elliott told UTV the device was found near a church.
“It’s up near Clogh church, a Church of Ireland right on the border with the Irish Republic, and I’m told there has been an object located close to that area,” the UUP politician said.
“It’s causing significant disruption for people living in that area and I know some people have already been moved out of their homes. It’s totally unfortunate that these people are made victims just because some people don’t want our communities living together.”
The alert comes after a beer keg containing 60kg of explosives was discovered in an abandoned car in the Derrylin Road area of Fermanagh last Friday.
Dissident republican group Óglaigh na hÉireann claimed responsibility for that device, which they said was destined for the Lough Erne hotel due to host the G8 summit this summer.
A statement from the PSNI said: “Police are continuing to deal with a security alert in the Clogh Road area of Rosslea following the discovery of a suspicious object in the area.
“Two homes have been evacuated. There are no further details at this stage.”
