Gerard Hodgins, ex hunger striker, chiede a Gerry Adams di lasciare il Bobby Sands Trust

L’ex Hunger Striker Gerard Hodgins chiede a Gerry Adams di dimettersi dal Bobby Sands Trust, alla luce delle sue azioni riguardanti le accuse contro suo fratello, Liam Adams.
Il Sands Trust ha sede negli uffici dello Sinn Fein di Falls Road, ed i suoi membri sono Gerry Adams, Danny Morrison, Tom Hartley, Jim Gibney, Brendan ‘Bik’ McFarlane, Sile Darragh, Caral Ni Chuilin, e Peter Madden (Madden e Finucane rappresentano il Trust).
Hartley, Morrison e Adams sono stati nel Trust fin dalla sua creazione.

La famiglia Sands ha respinto il Trust e ne ha chiesto pubblicamente la liquidazione.

“Siamo venuti a guardare più da vicino il Trust e, a loro volta erano preoccupati per la mancanza di controllo o di responsabilità”, ha detto una fonte della famiglia. “Non ci sono state segnalazioni di verbali, ecc o adeguati resoconti ed è discutibile stabilire se hanno mai funzionato come un Trust, o piuttosto come un prolungamento dello SF”.

C’è stata anche una preoccupazione della famiglia su un presunto tentativo dello Sinn Fein di inserire una clausola nel nuovo Trust che avrebbe reso Gerry Adams un beneficiario finanziario. “Si trovava nella bozza dei nuovi documenti del Trust nel 1994, sebbene Adams disse che si doveva intendere come il presidente dello Sinn Fein in carica in quel periodo. Non eravamo d’accordo con nulla”.

Commentando una notizia similare, la vice presidente dello Sinn Fein Mary Lou McDonald disse che chiunque fosse trovato colpevole di coprire gli abusi sessuali subiti da minori sarebbe dovuto essere arrestato: “Chiunque trovato a nascondere gli abusi sui minori deve essere arrestato e confrontarsi con i rigori della legge”.

Il punto di vista di Hodgins è rappresentativo degli elettori di Adams? Squinter, scrivendo sull’Andersontown News, non la pensa così. Ha rimandato ogni preoccupazione per il comportamento politico di Adams ai “soliti sospetti” e a chi “combatte Adams per professione”, affermando che “Adams ha mostrato molto coraggio e classe, e a lui ed alla sua famiglia dovrebbe essere dato il tempo e lo spazio per resistere e guarire”.

Anche Gerry Adams discredita i media nell’articolo sul suo blog, respingendo di aver coperto della storia: “Vi parlerò di quelli con la loro piccola agenda una volta o l’altra. Solitamente scrivono per il Sunday World, il Sunday Times, giornali di quel genere. Ho smesso di comprare i giornali della domenica quasi 10 anni fa. Uno spreco della domenica mattina. Pagine di mezze verità, opinioni, pregiudizi e menzogne. Meglio comprare un buon romanzo”.

Gerry Adams non è unico a parlare per i martiri repubblicani

Dieci anni fa la famiglia di Bobby Sands ha chiesto a Gerry Adams e a Danny Morrison di sciogliere il Bobby Sands Trust; una delle loro ragioni era che non ritenevano il Bobby Sands Trust essere quello che Gerry e Danny sostenevano fosse.

Bobby Sands era un uomo di princîpi, un uomo d’onore, un uomo di coraggio ed un uomo dal carattere senza macchia. Ha ispirato migliaia di persone in tutto il mondo nella loro lotta per la giustizia sociale e resta un fato di speranza per gli oppressi, gli incarcerati e quelli socialmente coscienziosi.

Negli anni successivi dopo la richiesta della famiglia di Bobby ad Adams e Morrison di chiudere l’organizzazione che hanno avviato usando il nome di Bobby, molto è venuto alla luce sull’elevato livello di penetrazione nella dirigenza dei Provisional da parte delle agenzie (di sicurezza) britanniche: infatti non è difficile accostare queste informazioni con l’ostentazione di ricchezza da parte della dirigenza dei Provisional e non concludere che si tratta di verità!

L’ultimo episodio sul vero volto dei dirigenti dei Provisional è molto fastidioso, dato che riguarda lo stupro e l’abuso di minori e la manipolazione di quell’odioso crimine di fronte alla polizia, alle organizzazioni di intelligence e alla dirigenza Provisional: nessuno si è preoccupato per la vittima, ognuno ha il suo scopo da perseguire.

Se Gerry Adams resterà o lascerà il posto di presidente dello Sinn Fein per me è una quisquilia e non commenterei in alcun modo se non per dire che Gerry è probabilmente la persona moralmente più appropriata a guidare un’organizzazione che appare, almeno nelle sue più alte sfere, un deposito di informatori, pedofili e Dio solo sa cos’altro.

Voglio chiedergli di dimettersi immediatamente dal Bobby Sands Trust, perché ritengo che l’associazione con una dirigenza Provisional screditata sia un disonore ed una beffa per i sacrifici che Bobby e gli altri uomini del 1981 fecero in nome della libertà. Una delle frasi più famose di Bobby Sands recita: la nostra vendetta sarà il sorriso dei nostri figli!

Gerry Adams non è un uomo che può continuare questa farsa per cui lui e solo lui può parlare per Bobby, gli hunger striker, i Blanketmen e le donne. Non in mio nome Gerry, sicuramente non in mio nome!

Arrestare e accusare i complici degli abusi sui minori – McDonald

Commentando la notizia di questa mattina sugli abusi sessuali sui bambini della diocesi di Dublino, la vice presidente dello Sinn Fein, Mary Lou McDonald, ha detto che chiunque abbia coperto gli abusi dovrebbe essere arrestato ed affrontare i rigori della legge.

McDonald ha descritto i servizi statali di protezione dei bambini come una disgrazia e che, tristemente, gli abusi di bambini continuano ancora oggi.

“Il rapporto sull’abuso sessuale su minori da parte di membri del clero a Dublino dimostrano come i più potenti uomini della chiesa cattolica nella diocesi di Dublino hanno cospirato per proteggere i colpevoli. E’ stato un enorme tradimento di generazioni di bambini.

“E’ specialmente riprovevole che le autorità dello Stato abbiano facilitato la copertura e permesso alla chiesa di agire al di fuori della legge. I più alti funzionari di polizia, fino al Commissioner, hanno ripetutamente chiuso un occhio sugli abusi sessuali perpetrati dal clero.

“Tutti coloro che sono trovati complici nella copertura degli abusi sui bambini, compresa la Gardaí, devono essere arrestati ed affrontare i rigori della legge.

“Il Governo deve agire immediatamente in risposta al rapporto che trova inadeguato il ruolo dell’HSE nel contrastare l’abuso sessuale sui minori.

“Come il Rapporto Ryan, questo rapporto deve spingere il governo ad agire tempestivamente per proteggere i bambini vulnerabili. Un altro recente rapporto ha portato alla chiusura della struttura di Ballydowd. Mostrava gravi deficit nel rispetto delle norme per la salvaguardia dei bambini vulnerabili.

“Tristemente l’abuso dei bambini non è una cosa del passato e sta proseguendo anche oggi e, per la vergogna dei governi che si sono succeduti, in questo Stato i servizi di protezione dei bambini sono una disgrazia. L’HSE sa di casi dove i bambini sono in grave pericolo ma i servizi non vengono attivati per eseguire gli interventi richiesti.

“Se lo Stato non mette in opera i servizi per la protezione dei bambini allora sarà colpevole come in passato, quando aiutava la copertura degli abusi sessuali sui minori”.

Former Hunger Striker Calls on Adams to Resign from Sands Trust

Former Hunger Striker Gerard Hodgins has called upon Gerry Adams to resign from the Bobby Sands Trust in light of his actions surrounding the accusations against his brother, Liam Adams. The Sands Trust is currently run out of the Sinn Fein offices on the Falls Road, and its members are Gerry Adams, Danny Morrison, Tom Hartley, Jim Gibney, Brendan ‘Bik’ McFarlane, Sile Darragh, Caral Ni Chuilin, and Peter Madden (Madden and Finucane represent the Trust). Hartley, Morrison and Adams have been on the Trust since its inception. The Sands family have rejected the Trust and have publicly called for it to be wound up. “We came to look closer at the Trust and in turn were concerned at the lack of control or accountability”, said one family source. “There were no records of minutes etc. or proper accounts and it was debatable if they ever functioned as a Trust but rather as an extension of SF.”

There was also family concern over an alleged attempt by Sinn Féin to insert a clause in the new Trust which would have made Gerry Adams a financial beneficiary. “It came in the draft version of the new trust documents drawn up in 1994 though Adams said that it should read the president of Sinn Féin of the day. We didn’t agree to either”.

In related news, Sinn Fein Vice President Mary Lou McDonald has said anyone found to have covered up the abuse of children should be arrested: “Anyone found to be complicit in the cover up of child abuse must be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.”

Is Hodgins’ viewpoint representative of Adams’ constituency? Squinter, writing in the Andersonstown News, doesn’t think so. He puts down any concerns over Adams’ political behaviour to ‘the usual suspects’ and ‘professional Adams-bashers’ and says that the true consensus is “Adams has shown a lot of courage and class, and that he and his family should be given the time and the space to endure and to heal”.

Gerry Adams also disparages the media in his latest blog entry, which is a folksy walk through the bog meadows, dismissing the coverage of the story out of hand: ”‘I’ll tell you about the ones with their own wee agenda some other time,’ I smiled. They usually write for the Sunday World, the Sunday Times, papers of that ilk. I stopped buying the Sunday papers about ten years ago. A waste of a Sunday morning. Pages of half truths, opinions, bias, lies. Better buying a decent novel’.”

SF leader not the only one to speak for republican martyrs

Ten years ago the family of Bobby Sands asked Gerry Adams and Danny Morrison to wind up The Bobby Sands Trust; their reasons for this included they don’t believe The Bobby Sands Trust is all Gerry and Danny claim it to be.

Bobby Sands was a man of principle, a man of honour, a man of courage and a man of unblemished character. He has inspired thousands throughout the globe in their struggles for social justice and remains a beacon of hope for the oppressed, the imprisoned and the socially conscious.

In the intervening years since Bobby’s family asked Adams and Morrison to wind up the organisation they run using Bobby’s name, much has come to light about the high level of penetration of the Provisional leadership by British intelligence agencies: so much so in fact it is difficult not to juxtapose this information alongside the new found ostentatious wealth of the Provisional leadership and not conclude there is truth in there!

The latest episode on the true face behind the Provisional leadership mask is a very disturbing one, given that it concerns the rape and abuse of children and the manipulation of that heinous crime by the Police, intelligence agencies and the Provisional leadership: nobody cared for the victim, all had their own agendas.

Whether Gerry Adams remains or goes as the leader of Sinn Fein is an irrelevance to me and I wouldn’t comment on it other than to say Gerry is probably the most morally apt person to lead an organisation which appears, in its upper echelons at least, to be a depository for informers, paedophiles and God knows what else.

I would call on him to resign immediately though from The Bobby Sands Trust as I believe further association with a discredited Provisional leadership besmirches and dishonours the sacrifces Bobby and the other men of ‘81 made in the name of freedom. One of Bobby’s most famous quotes is: our revenge will be the laughter of our children!

Gerry Adams is not a man who can continue this charade that he and he alone speaks for Bobby, the hunger strikers, the Blanketmen and women. Not in my name Gerry, most definitely not in my name!

Arrest and charge those complicit in child abuse cover up – McDonald

Commenting this morning on the report on clerical sexual abuse of children in the Dublin Diocese Sinn Féin Vice President Mary Lou McDonald said anyone found to have covered up the abuse of children should be arrested and face the full rigours of the law.

Ms. McDonald described the State’s child protection services as a disgrace and said sadly the abuse of children continues today.

Ms. McDonald said:

“The report on clerical sexual abuse of children in Dublin exposes how the most powerful men in the Catholic Church in the Dublin Diocese conspired to protect abusers of children. It was a gross betrayal of generations of children.

“It is especially damning that the State authorities facilitated the cover-up and allowed the Church to be beyond the reach of the law. Senior Gardai, up to and including the level of Commissioner, repeatedly turned a blind eye to crimes of clerical sexual abuse.

“Anyone, including Gardaí, found to be complicit in the cover up of child abuse must be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.

“The Government must take immediate action in response to the Report’s finding that the legislation governing the role of the HSE in dealing with child sexual abuse is inadequate.

“Like the Ryan Report, this report must prompt the Government to act urgently to protect vulnerable children today. Another recent report led to the closure of the facility at Ballydowd. It exposes serious deficits in standards aimed at safeguarding vulnerable children.

“Sadly child abuse is not a thing of the past and is continuing today and, to the shame of successive Governments in this state our child protection services are a disgrace. The HSE knows of cases where children are in grave danger but the services are not in place to make the interventions required.

“If the State does not put in place the services for the protection of children then it will be just as culpable as it was in the past when it facilitated the cover up of child sex abuse.” ENDS
