Il presidente dello Sinn Féin Gerry Adams e il vice primo ministro nordirlandese Martin McGuinness incontreranno il principe Carlo durante la sua visita ufficiale in Irlanda
Il partito di Falls Road ha confermato la notizia nella serata di lunedì.
Lo storico incontro avverrà oggi – martedì – nella Contea di Galway durante il primo giorno di viaggio del principe Carlo e di Camilla.
Una dichiarazione dello Sinn Féin annuncia: “L’Ard Chomhairle di sabato ha deciso che i rappresentanti dello Sinn Féin parteciperanno agli eventi in occasione della visita del principe Carlo in Irlanda.
“I rappresentanti dello Sinn Féin, tra cui il presidente Gerry Adams e il vice primo ministro Martin McGuinness, hanno ricevuto alcuni inviti.
“In linea con la decisione dell’Esecutivo Nazionale entrambi incontreranno il principe Carlo”.
In precedenza Kate Nash, sorella di un uomo assassinato durante il Bloody Sunday, ha duramente contestato la decisione dello Sinn Féin di incontrare il principe Carlo nel corso della sua visita.
I preparativi per la visita di quattro giorni del principe del Galles sono in fase di ultimazione.
Il principe Carlo visiterà l’Irlanda del Nord per poi spostarsi a Galway e a Sligo nella Repubblica.
Si tratta della prima visita del principe Carlo nella Repubblica d’Irlanda. Sarà accompagnato da Camilla, la duchessa di Cornovaglia.

Uno dei momenti chiave del viaggio sarà la visita a Mullaghmore, nella Contea di Sligo, la baia in cui suo zio Lord Mountbatten e altre tre persone furono uccisi dall’IRA che mise un potente ordigno sulla sua barca.
Questo è l’ultimo di una serie di eventi in cui la famiglia reale britannica e i nazionalisti irlandesi hanno fatto significativi passi avanti verso la riconciliazione.
Ma la mossa di Adams e McGuinness è stata contestata da alcune delle famiglie delle vittime del Bloody Sunday perché il principe Carlo è Colonnello-in-Capo del Reggimento Paracadutisti inglese, i cui soldati uccisero 13 civili inermi il 30 gennaio 1972 a Derry.
Il fratello di Kate Nash, William, venne ucciso quel giorno dai proiettili inglesi.
Ha affermato l’attivista: “Lo Sinn Féin è un partito nazionalista e quindi pretende di rappresentare la popolazione nazionalista. Il fatto che si intrattengano con il principe Carlo, che è Colonnello-in-Capo del Reggimento Paracadutisti mi inquieta.
“Il Reggimento Paracadutisti è completamente disonorato.
“Hanno assassinato persone a Derry, Belfast, Ballymurphy e giù in Shankill Road”.
Lo Sinn Féin ha detto che il principe Carlo può essere il Colonnello-in-Capo del Reggimento Paracadutisti, ma è anche una persona la cui famiglia ha sofferto per lutti e perdite durante i Troubles.
Il partito ha detto che la volontà di incontrare il principe era l’occasione per promuovere la comprensione, per costruire la riconciliazione, e di far seguito al buon lavoro fatto dopo l’incontro tra la Regina e Martin McGuinness.

Prince Charles to meet Gerry Adams on visit
Prince Charles will meet Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness during his Irish visit.
The party confirmed the news on Monday evening.
It is understood the historic meeting will take place in Co Galway on Tuesday as Charles and Camilla begin their four-day trip.
A statement from Sinn Féin said: “On Saturday an Ard Chomhairle decided that representatives of Sinn Féin would attend events as part of the visit of Prince Charles to Ireland.
“Sinn Féin representatives have received a number of invites including the party president Gerry Adams and deputy First Minister Martin McGuiness.
“In line with the Ard Chomhairle decision both will meet with Prince Charles.”
Earlier, the sister of a man killed on Bloody Sunday hit out at Sinn Féin’s decision for its members to meet with Prince Charles during his visit this week.
Final preparations are underway for the four-day visit by the Prince of Wales.
As well as visiting Northern Ireland, he will travel to Galway and Sligo in the Republic of Ireland.
It will be the prince’s first time in the Republic with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

A key moment during the trip will be his visit to Mullaghmore in Co Sligo – to the harbour where his uncle Lord Louis Mountbatten and three others were killed in an IRA bomb blast on his boat.
It is the latest in a series of events in which the Royal family and Irish nationalists have made significant moves towards reconciliation and healing.
But the move has been criticised by some of the Bloody Sunday families because the prince holds the honorary rank of Colonel-in-Chief of the Parachute Regiment, whose soldiers killed 13 civilians in Londonderry.
Kate Nash’s brother William was killed on Bloody Sunday.
She said: “As Sinn Féin are a nationalist party and they pertain to represent the nationalist people, the fact they are entertaining Prince Charles who is Colonel-in-Chief of the Parachute Regiment sticks in my craw.
“The Parachute Regiment have disgraced themselves.
“They have murdered people in Derry, Belfast, Ballymurphy and down the Shankill Road.”
Sinn Féin has said that Prince Charles may be Colonel-in-Chief of the Parachute Regiment, but he is also an individual whose family has suffered loss and bereavement during the Troubles.
The party said its willingness to meet the prince was a chance to promote healing, to build on efforts aimed at reconciliation, and to follow on from the good work after the Queen met Martin McGuinness.
