Gerry Adams: Provos non colpevoli di crimini di guerra

Il presidente dello Sinn Fein Gerry Adams ha descritto la pratica dell’IRA di uccidere e occultare le proprie vittime in luoghi segreti come un “grosso errore”, ma ha rifiutato categoricamente di ritenere che fosse un crimine di guerra.

Parlando a “Prime Time” su Rté, Adams ha fatto appello a chiunque abbia informazioni sulle persone rapite ed assassinate dall’IRA tra il 1972 ed il 1986, i cui corpi sono stati sepolti in segreto (i cosiddetti Disappeared, Ndt), di farsi avanti.

“So che si è trattato di un grosso errore da parte dell’IRA e di una fase particolarmente triste del conflitto. E’ una delle grandi ingiustizie irrisolte e non corrette compiute dai Repubblicani”, ha affermato.

“L’IRA ha chiesto scusa pubblicamente per questo e desidera che la gente faccia pervenire le informazioni. Il mio obiettivo è di dare a queste famiglie le sepolture cristiane che meritano”.

Adams ha nuovamente negato il coinvolgimento nell’uccisione e nella sparizione di Jean McConville, la madre di 10 figli rapita, uccisa e sepolta segretamente dall’IRA nel 1972.

Inoltre ha nuovamente respinto di essere stato un membro dell’IRA.

Provos not guilty of war crimes — Adams

SINN Fein president Gerry Adams last night described the IRA practice of killing and burying its victims in secret locations as a “huge mistake”, but categorically refused to accept it was a war crime.

Speaking on RTE’s ‘Prime Time’, Mr Adams appealed to anyone with information on people abducted and killed by the IRA between 1972 and 1986, and their bodies secretly buried, to come forward.

“I know it was a huge mistake by the IRA and a particularly sad phase of the conflict. It is one of the great unresolved, uncorrected injustices done by Republicans,” he said.

“The IRA has publicly apologised for this and sought people to bring information forward. My focus is to give these families the Christian burials they deserve.”

Mr Adams again denied having any involvement in the killing and disappearance of Belfast mother of 10 Jean McConville in 1972, who was abducted, killed and secretly buried by the IRA in Co Louth.

He again denied being a member of the IRA.
