Il presidente dello Sinn Fein Gerry Adams si è offerto – oppure un altro membro del suo partito – come mediatore nei colloqui con i gruppi armati repubblicani

Adams ha chiesto alle organizzazioni politiche legittimate che rappresentano i gruppi armati di dire “stop” alla violenza.

L’offerta giung dopo la partecipazione di migliaia di persone alla “Camminata per la Pace” di Omagh, na settimana dopo l’omicidio del poliziotto cattolico Ronan Kerr.

Sabato la polizia ha ottenuto cinque giorni aggiuntivi per interrogare l’uomo di 33 anni arrestato venerdì.

Altri due uomini sono stati fermati dagli investigatori in collegamento con la bomba che ha ucciso l’agente della PSNI.

Venerdì la polizia ha ricevuto il permesso di trattenere per altri cinque giorni i due uomini, di 26 e 40 anni, già in custodia.

I repubblicani che si oppongono al processo di pace sono ritenuti responsabili per l’attacco, così come per la bomba ritrovata all’interno di un furgone abbandonato vicino alla cittadina di confine di Newry.

La neo recluta della PSNI Ronan Kerr stava lasciando la sua abitazione per recarsi al lavoro a Fermanagh quado è stato ucciso.

Parlando a “Morning Ireland” su Rté, Adams ha detto che i responsabili dell’attacco non sono rappresentativi della popolazione d’Irlanda.

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has offered himself, or any member of his party, as a mediator in talks with dissident republicans.

Mr Adams called on the legitimate political organisations representing dissidents to say ‘stop’ to violence.

It comes after thousands of people turned out in Omagh yesterday for a ‘Walk of Peace’, a week after the murder of Catholic PSNI Constable Ronan Kerr in a car bomb attack.

Yesterday, police investigating the murder were granted an extra five days to question a 33-year-old man arrested on Friday.

Two other men have been detained by detectives investigating the booby trap bomb attack that killed the 25-year-old Catholic officer.

On Friday police were given a further five days to question the other 26-year-old and 40-year-old already in custody.

Dissident republicans opposed to the peace process were blamed for the attack, and the same extremists are believed to be behind a 500lb van bomb police discovered near the border town of Newry on Thursday.

Mr Kerr was leaving his home to start work at Enniskillen police station in Co Fermanagh when he was killed.

Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Mr Adams said those who carried out the attack were not representative of people in Northern Ireland.
