Le immagini hanno mostrato il parlamentare caricato sul cofano di una Land Rover della polizia dopo la parata del 21 giugno.
Venerdì un portavoce della PSNI ha confermato che il politico sessantenne è stato interrogato dalla polizia e adesso il rapporto verrà consegnato al Pubblico Ministero.
Secondo la polizia la parata è passata “in maggioranza pacificamente” ma un piccolo stallo si è avuto quando alcuni giovani nazionalisti hanno cercato di andare verso le bande musicali mentre percorrevano Peter’s Hill.
Il parlamentare di North Belfast ha detto che stava parlando con i giovani, i quali avevano acconsentito di tornare a casa, quando gli è stato riferito del fermo di un ragazzo, rinchiuso in una Land Rover della polizia.
Ha confermato di aver parlato con l’agente alla guida, il quale avrebbe indicato l’intenzione di accostare in modo da poter parlare con i genitori dell’adolescente.
Il rappresentante dello Sinn Féin ha detto di non aver criticato l’intera polizia per quella serata ma stava “parlando di un incidente che aveva coinvolto un piccolo numero di agenti di polizia, e si trattava di una brutta gestione dell’ordine”.
Anche il Ministro della Cultura Caral Ní Chuilín era stata portata in ospedale dopo l’incidente.
Il leader del DUP, nonché primo ministro nordirlandese, Peter Robinson aveva criticato le azioni di Kelly definendole “sconsiderate e mal consigliate”.
L’incidente è stato segnalato anche al Police Ombudsman.

Sinn Féin’s Gerry Kelly has been interviewed by PSNI over an incident at the Tour of the North last month.
Footage showed the assembly member being carried along the bonnet of a police land rover after the event on Friday 21 June.
A police spokesman confirmed on Friday the 60-year-old was interviewed by police and said a report would now be forwarded to the PPS.
Police said the parade was “largely peaceful” but a stand-off followed after a number of nationalist youths tried to run through the bands as they made their way up Peter’s Hill.
The north Belfast MLA had said he was talking to young people who had agreed to go home when he was made aware that a teenager had been arrested and was inside a police land rover.
He said he spoke to the officer driving the vehicle, who indicated he would pull over so they could speak with the teen’s parents.
At the time, the Sinn Féin representative said he had not criticised all the police on the night, but was “talking about an incident involving a small number of police, and it was bad policing”.
Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín was also taken to hospital following the incident.
DUP leader Peter Robinson criticised Mr Kelly’s actions “reckless and ill-advised”.
The incident has also been reported to the Police Ombudsman.
