Gerry Kelly sparò ad una guardia carceraria durante evazione da Maze

I documenti governativi appena rilasciati affermano che fu Gerry Kelly a sparare e ferire la guardia carceraria John Adams durante l’evasione di 38 prigionieri dell’IRA da Maze il 25 settembre 1983.

Secondo il documento ufficiale rilasciato il 27 dicembre dal Public Record Office for Northern Ireland (PRONI), un’altra guardia carceraria vide Gerry Kelly “puntate una pistola nella stanza di controllo”.

Il rapporto aggiungeva: “Questo serve a stabilire che il prigioniero 52 Kelly sparò alla guardia Adams che era in servizio nella stanza di controllo”.

Gerry Kelly in seguito fu accusato formalmente per il ferimento ma venne dichiarato non colpevole nel processo svoltosi a Belfast.

Kelly, attualmente parlamentare di North Belfast per lo Sinn Féin, recentemente ha pubblicato un libro sulla questione, ma ha glissato sul suo ruolo nel ferimento della guardia carceraria e sull’evasione.

NEWLY released government papers say that Gerry Kelly was the inmate who shot and wounded prisoner officer John Adams during the 1983 Maze escape of 38 IRA inmates.

According to the official file released today by the Public Record Office for Northern Ireland (PRONI), another prison guard saw Mr Kelly “pointing a pistol into the control room”.

The report added: “This would establish that Prisoner 52 Kelly shot Officer Adams who was on duty in the control (room).”

Gerry Kelly was later charged with the shooting but found not guilty at his trial in Belfast Crown Court.

Mr Kelly, now the Sinn Fein MLA for north Belfast, recently published a book but glossed over his role in the shooting and escape.
