Il parlamentare di North Belfast dello Sinn Féin, Gerry Kelly, dovrebbe essere chiamato a testimoniare nell’inchiesta sull’omicidio del repubblicano Gareth O’Connor
Gareth O’Connor scomparve dopo aver guidato attraverso Newtownhamilton, South Armagh, nel 2003, mentre stava andando a firmare per il rilascio con la condizionale nella Repubblica d’Irlanda.
A giugno 2005 il suo corpo decomposto venne trovato all’interno della sua vettura ripescata dal Canale Newry.
La sua famiglia ha detto che Gerry Kelly li aveva visitati due volte affermando che avrebbe parlato con i Provisional IRA riguardo all’omicidio.
I Provos dissero al parlamentare di non essere responsabili per la morte di O’Connor.
Si ritiene che i gruppi repubblicani contrari al processo di pace assassinarono O’Connor perché lo ritenevano un agente delle forze di sicurezza.
Il caso fa parte del gruppo di omicidi avvenuti duranti i Troubles e sottoposti al vaglio del giudice dell’Alta Corte Weir.

SINN FEIN’S GERRY KELLY FACING CALLS TO ATTEND INQUEST INTO MURDER OF GARETH O’CONNOR
NORTH Belfast Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly could be asked to give evidence at the inquest into the killing of dissident republican Gareth O’Connor.
Mr O’Connor disappeared after driving through Newtownhamilton in south Armagh in 2003 while on his way to sign bail in the Republic.
In June 2005, his badly decomposed body was discovered in his car which was fished from Newry Canal.
His family have said Mr Kelly told visited them twice saying he spoke to the Provisional IRA about the murder.
The Provos told the MLA that it was not responsible for the killing.
It is believed dissident republicans murdered O’Connor believing him to be a security force agent.
The case is one of 56 legacy inquests being reviewed by senior High Court judge Lord Justice Reg Weir QC.
