I residenti di Rasharkin chiedono risposte

Questa sera si terrà un incontro pubblico a Rasharkin per discutere il motivo secondo cui ad una parata di bande musicali lealiste è stato permesso di marciare con un percorso modificato attraverso la cittadina a mezzanotte.

I residenti hanno visto il cambio di percorso all’ultimo minuto a causa di un allarme bomba presso una Orange Hall. La parata si è conclusa ben oltre la mezzanotte.

Per lo Sinn Fein il cambio di percorso è stato illegale perché non autorizzato dalla Parades Commission (Commissione Parate). La PSNI e la Parades Commission sono stati invitati a presenziare all’incontro che si svolgerà alle 19:30 presso il Rasharkin Community Centre.

Daithi McKay, parlamentare di North Antrim per lo Sinn Fein, afferma: “I residenti sono stati critici sul modo in cui è stata gestita la parata dalla PSNI e dalla Parades Commission. Ci sono numerose domande da fargli riguardo alla decisione presa.

“L’intimidazione settaria, i danni criminali e il disturbo generale che questa parata porta alla cittadina non vanno permessi nuovamente.

“Spetta a gruppi come questi assicurare che i diritti dei cittadini abitanti qui sia rispettato”.

Rasharkin residents demand answers about re-routed parade

A public meeting will be held tonight in Rasharkin to discuss why a loyalist band parade was allowed to be re-routed through the village at midnight two weeks ago.

Residents of the Co Antrim village saw the controversial parade re-routed at the last minute because of a bomb scare at an Orange hall. The march did not conclude until after midnight on Saturday morning.

Sinn Fein has claimed that the re-routing was illegal because it was not cleared by the Parades Commission. The PSNI and the Parades Commission have been invited to speak at the meeting in Rasharkin Community Centre at 7.30pm.

North Antrim Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay said: “Residents have been critical of the way the parade was handled by the Parades Commission and the PSNI. They will have a series of questions to put to them regarding the decisions they took.

“The sectarian intimidation, criminal damage and general disorder that this parade brings to the village must not be allowed to take place again.

“It is up to groups such as these to ensure that the rights of residents living here are upheld.”
