I soldi per la giustizia potrebbero “scomparire”

Il leader di Alliance Party avverte dei rischi, qualora il trasferimento dei poteri su giustizia e polizia venga rimandato

David Ford afferma che il pacchetto finanziario da 1 miliardo di sterline messo sul tavolo per la devolution potrebbe essere perso qualora un accordo non venga raggiunto prima delle prossime elezioni generali.

Parlando al programma Inside Politics, a BBC Radio Ulster, Ford ha detto di ritenere “il miglior accordo che sia possibile ottenere”.

Ford è ritenuto il possibile nuovo ministro della Giustizia.

“Dobbiamo guardare indietro a due anni e mezzo fa, al completo fallimento di Ian Paisley e Gerry Adams nel tentativo di ottenere qualsiasi budget dal Tesoro per la devolution” prosegue Ford.

“Non credo ci sia una specifica tempistica ma penso dobbiamo ritenere che, se non riusciamo a mettere in campo (la devolution) entro le prossime elezioni generali di maggio, allora (il miliardo di sterline) non sarà più disponibile.

“Certamente il Segretario di Stato sembra ritenere che (il pacchetto finanziario) non dovrebbe essere disponibile se la Direct Rule (il governo diretto di Londra sul Nordirlanda) dovesse continuare”.

The leader of the Alliance Party has warned of risks if the transfer of policing and justice powers is delayed.

David Ford said a £1bn package to pay for devolution could be lost if agreement is not reached before the next general election.

Speaking on BBC Radio Ulster’s Inside Politics programme, Mr Ford said he believed “it may be the best deal we are going to get”.

Mr Ford is believed to be likely to take the new post of justice minister.

“We do have to look back two and a half years at the complete failure of Ian Paisley and Gerry Adams to get any package out of the treasury for devolution in general,” Mr Ford said.

“I don’t think there is a specific time scale but I think we can take it that if it has not come into play before the general election next May, then it probably isn’t available any longer.

“Certainly the secretary of state seems to believe that it would not be available to him if direct rule is to continue.”
