Il partito ha rilasciato un comunicato dicendosi deluso dalla mossa e accusando Burke di andare contro l’impregno preso con lo Sinn Fein quando decise di presentarsi come candidato alle elezioni locali.
Il responsabile del partito a Dublino, Aengus O’Snodaigh, ha ricordato che Burke ha affrontato l’elezioni per il consiglio e quelle suppletivo di Dublin Central con il pieno sostegno del partito.
Secondo O’Snodaigh dovrebbe onorare l’impegno preso e lasciare anche il proprio seggio in consiglio.

Dublin Councillor Christy Burke resigns from SF
The party has issued a statement today saying it is disappointed by the move and accusing Mr Burke of going against a commitment he made to Sinn Fein when he was endorsed as a candidate for the local elections.
The chair of the party in Dublin, Aengus O’Snodaigh, says Mr Burke fought the local council election and the Dublin Central by-election with the full support of the party.
He says he should honour the commitment he made and resign his council seat.
