Il DNA lega Raymond Wooton al ritrovamento di Semtex

Il DNA collega l’uomo di affari di North Belfast al ritrovamento di esplosivo Semtex e di un revolver in un complesso industriale di West Belfast

Raymond Wooton, 41 anni da Ardoyne, deve rispondere di sette capi di imputazione dovuti al ritrovamento di due armi da parte della PSNI.

Oltre che al Semtex ed alla pistola, Wooton è stato accusato anche per il ritrovamento di una bomba avvenuto ad Ardoyne lo scorso mese.

L’accusato nega ogni addebito.

Un avvocato dell’accusa afferma che il revolver, trovato insieme al Semtex ad Hannahstown lo scorso gennaio, era stato utilizzato da Oglaigh na hEireann per un tentato omicidio ed una spediziona punitiva ad aprile e maggio 2009.

Fa inoltre sapere che la bomba scoperta lo scorso mese si trovava nel giardino sul retro di un’abitazione utilizzata da Wooton per ricevere la posta.

Durante l’udienza presso l’Alta Corte, l’avvocato ha riferito che l’accusato aveva mostrato di sostenere i gruppi repubblicani e aveva partecipato a luglio ad un raduno in favore di Colin Duffy, in attesa di processo per l’attacco di Massereeene Barracks.

L’avvocato di Wooton nega l’esistenza di un collegamento con la zona industriale e che il suo assistito non sa nulla degli oggetti ritrovati.

“Non ha alcun legame con questo genere di cose”, ha aggiunto.

L’avvocato dice che Wooton ha negato il collegamento con la casa di Ardoyne dove è stato trovato l’ordigno.

Prosegue ricordando che la casa era disabitata ed il giardino era mal curato in cui era facile accedere dai molti vicoli preseti dietro la proprietà.

Per il legale le insidie delle prove del DNA sono ben note e si tratta di “un’area controversa della scienza forense”.

Il giudice Declan Morgan afferma che il materiale ritrovato dalla polizia rappresenta un rischio per la popolazione e ha deciso di egare il rilascio con la condizionale.

DNA links a north Belfast businessman to Semtex explosives and a revolver found in a west Belfast industrial estate, a court has been told.

Raymond Wooton, 41, from Brompton Park in the Ardoyne area faces seven charges arising out of two arms finds by the PSNI.

As well as the Semtex and gun, Mr Wooton has been charged over a bomb found in Ardyone last month.

The accused denies all the charges against him.

A prosecution lawyer said the revolver, which was found along with the Semtex in Hannahstown in January, had been used in an attempted murder and a punishment shooting by the dissident republican group Oglaigh na hEireann in April and May 2009.

He also said the bomb found last month was discovered in the back garden of a house which Mr Wooton used as a postal address.

The lawyer told the High Court the accused had displayed support for dissident republicans and attended a rally in July for Colin Duffy, who is awaiting trial on terrorist charges.

Mr Wooton’s lawyer said he had no links to the industrial estate and knew nothing about the items which were found there.

“He has no truck with this sort of thing” he added.

The lawyer said Mr Wooton also denied any connections with the Ardoyne house where the explosive device was found.

He said the house was not lived in and the garden was an overgrown mess which could be easily accessed from the myriad of alleys behind the property.

He said the pitfalls of DNA evidence were well known and it was “a fiercely controversial area of forensic science”.

Lord Chief Justice Sir Declan Morgan said the materials which had been found by police represented a serious risk to the public and he refused bail.
