La Commissione Parate dovrebbe essere abolita “per aumentare la fiducia nel trasferimento dei poteri della polizia e giustizia”, ha detto il leader del DUP Peter Robinson
Ha affermato che il problema delle parate deve essere risolto prima del trasferimento dei poteri su polizia e giustizia all’Assemblea nordirlandese.
Secondo Robinson, la Parades Commission (Commissione Parate) “non è la soluzione ai problemi, ma parte del problema stesso”.
“Lasciare le questioni irrisolte e trasferire i poteri di polizia e giustizia sarebbe come piantare un seme nel cuore del governo in Irlanda del Nord che ritengo possa essere corrosivo e divisorio e che, in ultima analisi, potrebbe essere la goccia che fa traboccare il vaso”, ha affermato.
Robinson dice di aver fortemente sostenuto il lavoro dell’ex leader liberal democratico Lord Ashdown, il quale sta effettuando un’analisi sulle parate in Irlanda del Nord, ma ha fatto domande sul ritardo nel rapporto finale.
Il leader del DUP ha detto che il ritardo non era colpa di Lord Ashdown ma dello Sinn Fein, il quale cerca di “mettere un prezzo politico per eseguire ciò che era già stato concordato”.
Commissione
Il parlamentare dello Sinn Fein, John O’Dowd, ha detto che l’abolizione della Commissione non risolverebbe i problemi.
“Ciò che Peter Robinson va dicendo è che vuole rimuovere la Commissione Parate e creare un altro organismo giudicante, ma non risolverà la questione delle parate. Ciò che potrebbe servire sarebbe una discussione tra gli ordini lealisti e i repubblicani e nazionalisti residenti nelle zone dove transitano quelle parate”, ha affermato.
“Il rapporto Ashdown parla del trasferimento delle questioni sulle parate e dei poteri decisionali ai politici locali, ciò che stiamo dicendo è che se c’è l’avvio del trasferimento delle questioni sulle parate, poi devi trasferire tutte le responsabilità”.
Nel frattempo, il leader dello SDLP e parlamentare per Foyle, Mark Durkan, ha detto che “la continua politicizzazione delle parate e della polizia da parte di DUP e Sinn Fein è un percorso pericoloso da intraprendere”.
Durkan parlava dopo aver preso parte al dibattito a Westminster.
Durkan ha affermato: “La creazione della Parades Commission ha fatto sì che la politica, in vista dell’Accordo del Venerdì Santo, non era catturata, trafitta e ostacolata dalla gestione della questione parate”.

DUP wants parades body abolished
The Parades Commission should be abolished “to increase confidence in devolved policing and justice powers,” DUP leader Peter Robinson has said.
He said issues of parading needed to be resolved before the transfer of policing and justice power to the NI Assembly could take place.
Mr Robinson said the commission was “not a solution to problems, but part of the problem itself”.
“To leave these issues unresolved and to devolve powers of policing and justice would plant a seed at the heart of government in Northern Ireland which I believe would be corrosive and divisive and which ultimately could in fact be the straw that breaks the camel’s back,” he said.
Mr Robinson said he strongly supported the work of former Liberal Democrat leader Lord Ashdown, who is heading a review into parading in Northern Ireland, but he questioned the delay in the final report.
The DUP leader said the delay was not the fault of Lord Ashdown but was down to Sinn Fein seeking “to extract a political price to deliver that which has already been agreed”.
Commission
Sinn Fein assembly member John O’Dowd said abolishing the commission would not solve any problems.
“What Peter Robinson is saying that he wants to remove the Parades Commission and put in another adjudicating body, this will not resolve the parades issues, what will resolve it is discussions between the loyal orders and the nationalist and republican areas which are affected by those parades,” he said.
“The Ashdown report talks about the transfer of parading issues and decision making powers to local politicians, what we were saying is that if there is gong to be a transfer of parading issues then you have to transfer all responsibilities.”
Meanwhile, SDLP leader and Foyle MP Mark Durkan has said “the continued politicising of parades and policing by Sinn Fein and the DUP is a dangerous route to take”.
He was speaking after taking part in the debate at Westminster.
Mr Durkan said: “The creation of the Parades Commission meant that politics, in coming to the Good Friday Agreement, was not caught, transfixed and hamstrung by having to handle the parades issue.”
