Si è saputo in aula che il lealista accusato di possedere sul telefono cellulare le foto in topless di una ragazza di 13 anni avrebbe scambiato con la giovane ben 1.761 Sms in soli 8 mesi. Anche il lealista si è detto “molto scioccato” per l’intenso scambio di messaggi.

Mark Harbinson, 44 anni di Lisburn, ha poi spiegato che era “incredibilmente … ridicolo” che lui avesse chiesto di inviare a lui delle foto, e ha spiegato che il suo rapporto nel 2009 con l’adolescente era stato “amichevole… ma professionale “.

Harbinson, che nega di aver abusato sessualmente della ragazza, anche in una Orange Hall, ha fornito testimonianza al suo processo presso la Cragavon Crown Court.

Respinge 13 accuse, due delle quale riguardano un assalto sessuale su una ragazza di 14 anni ed il suo migliore amico di 13 anni, ad una festa di compleanno nel febbraio 2007. Le altre undici accuse coinvolgono l’attività sessuale e l’istigazione a tale attività con la ragazza tra marzo e ottobre 2009, quando Harbinson è stato arrestato con lei nella sua auto, dopo che la polizia aveva già scoperto le foto della ragazza in topless sul suo cellulare. Dopo il suo arresto la polizia ha anche trovato una foto della ragazza memorizzata su un altro telefono cellulare.

L’avvocato dell’accusa David Hunter ha portato Harbinson attraverso le accuse contro di lui e le sue risposte iniziali, quando fu interrogato dalla polizia.

Harbison ammise che quando le aggressioni sessuali avvenero, aveva un’età compresa tra 40 e 42 anni, e che le sue presunte vittime erano “due ragazze, una di 14, un’altra di 13 ed un ragazzo di 12”.

Hunter ha affermato che le accuse coinvolgenti la ragazza più giovane effettivamente mostrano come Harbinson avesse “un rapporto più intenso che comprendeva l’attività sessuale per un periodo di otto mesi nel 2009” quando si soo scambiati “1.761 messaggi”.

Harbinson aggiunto in seguito che era “abbastanza scioccato quando mi hanno comunicato le cifre”.

Harbinson detto che non c’era nulla di vero in nessuna delle accuse, e che i tre bambini “dicono le bugie più terribili”.

Hunter ha sfidato Harbinson “guardare la giuria” e dire loro che ogni rapporto avuto con il ragazzo è stato professionale e non personale.

“Sì”, ha detto Harbinson. “Sì, è stato cordiale, sì, ma è stato professionale”.

Abuse accused denies relationship with child was of a sexual nature

A loyalist who allegedly had topless photos of a 13-year-old girl on his mobile phone has told a court he was also “quite shocked” that he and the girl sent 1,761 mobile text messages between them in just eight months.

Mark Harbinson (44), of Sheepwalk Road in Lisburn, later explained it was “unbelievable… ridiculous” that he’d asked for the pictures to be sent to him, and maintained his relationship in 2009 with the teenager was “friendly… but professional”.

Harbinson, who denies sexually abusing the girl, including once in an Orange hall, was giving evidence for a second day at his Cragavon Crown Court trial.

He denies 13 charges, two of which relate to sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl and her 13-year-old best friend, a boy, at a birthday party in February 2007. Eleven other charges involve sexual activity and inciting such activity with the girl between March and October 2009, when Harbinson was arrested with her in his car after police had earlier uncovered the topless pictures on his mobile. After his arrest police also found a picture of the girl stored on another mobile phone.

Yesterday prosecution QC David Hunter took Harbinson through the allegations against him and his initial response to them when questioned by police.

Mr Harbinson accepted that when the alleged sex assaults occurred he was aged 40 and 42, and that his alleged victims were “two girls, one of 14, another of 13 and a boy of 12”.

Mr Hunter said the charges involving the younger girl effectively accused Harbinson of “having a most intense relationship involving sexual activity over a period of eight months in 2009” when they sent “1,761 messages”.

Harbinson added later he was “quite shocked when the actual figure was given to me”.

Harbinson said there was no truth in any of the allegations, and that the three children “are telling the most appalling lies”.

Mr Hunter challenged Harbinson to “look at the jury” and to tell them that any relationship he had with the youngster was professional and not personal.

“Yes,” said Harbinson. “Yes, it was friendly, yes, but it was professional.”
