Una tempesta in un bicchiere si è scatenata ieri pometiggio su Twitter dopo che il ministro per la Salute nordirlandese Edwin Poots ha scritto un messaggio sulle celebrazioni del 97° anniversario della Rivolta di Pasqua.

“Mi ero dimenticato che è il 97° anniversario di una fallita rivolta di sovversivi” pubblica sul social network il parlamentare del DUP.
Pronta la risposta di un utente che si chiama Brian Adams Fraser:

“Sono cresciuto nella fede protestante e trovo quel linguaggio inutilmente infiammatorio”, afferma l’uomo aggiungendo che il messaggio scritto da Poots è “penoso per un politico”.
Altri utenti sono stati meno tranquilli.
Paul Moloney ha suggerito che “è difficile prendere sul serio un uomo che ritiene l’Universo vecchio di 6000 anni”, facendo chiaro riferimento alla visione creazionista di Poots. Conor McGuigan, intanto, suggeriva che quel tweet dimostrava come “i politici del DUP sono più interessati a comportarsi come troll che a fare/sire qualcosa di costruttivo”.
Un altro utente ha notato che, mentre il profilo su Twitter di Edwin Poots dice “continuo ad andare avanti”, i suoi messaggi “riportano le cose alla fine del 19° secolo”.
Matthew Carson si dice “convinto che esista nell’Assemblea una scommessa su chi sia il membro più detestabile” aggiungendo che “Edwin Poots si appresta a vincerla”.
Aaron Litvinoff suggerisce a Poots “di crescere” e bolla il politico unionista come un “idiota rivolto al passato” prima di concludere il suo tweet con: “Così tanto per un futuro condiviso e per il rispetto della cultura degli altri, eh?”
Ore dopo il suo messaggio infiammatorio, le risposte di altri utenti giungevano ancora al ritmo di più di una al minuto. Poots, tuttavia, è rimasto impenitente.

“Sembra che qualche guerriero cibernetico senza nome si stato leggermente irritato oggi”, è stata la sola replica di Poots.
La grande maggioranza di chi ha risposto al commento di Poots ha scritto col proprio nome e con la propria fotografia, suggerendo che Poots ha poca dimestichezza con Twitter.

A Twitter storm in a teacup has erupted this afternoon after Northern Ireland’s health minister Edwin Poots posted a trolling tweet which casted aspersion on today’s celebrations to mark the 97th anniversary of the Easter Rising.

“Had forgotten it is the 97th anniversary of a failed rising by subversives,” the DUP MLA said and watched on as a deluge of criticism swamped his timeline.

Other users of the site were less kind.
Paul Moloney suggested that it was “hard to take seriously a man who thinks the universe is 6000 years old” referring to Mr Poots’ creationist views. A Conor McGuigan, meanwhile, suggested that the tweet proved that “DUP politicians are more interested in trolling than doing/saying anything constructive”.
Another user pointed out that while Mr Poots’s Twitter profile says “keep moving forward” his tweets “move things backwards to the late 19th century”.
And a Matthew Carson said he was “convinced there’s a bet on within the Assembly as to who can be the most detestable member” adding that “ Edwin Poots is in it to win it”.
Aaron Litvinoff suggested Mr Poots “grow up” and called the leading Unionist politician a “backwards idiot” before concluding his tweet with: “So much for a shared future and respecting other people’s culture eh?”
Hours after his inflammatory tweet, responses were coming in at more than one a minute. Mr Poots was, however, unrepentant.

The vast majority of those who had responded to his comments had names and identifying pictures to accompany their tweets however, suggesting that Mr Poots has as poor an understanding of Twitter as he does history.
