Il ministero delle Imprese, del Commercio e degli Investimenti ha confermato di aver stanziato il finanziamento per il museo del Bogside
Gli organizzatori del Museo di Free Derry avevano avvertito che il progetto sarebbe potuto terminare se non fosse giunto il finanziamento di circa 1,4 milioni di euro da parte del DETI.
Il finanziamento è stato concesso il 31 ottobre.
Il parlamentare Mark Durkan è contento per la notizia.
“Accolgo con favore l’approvazione da parte del DETI del finanziamento di questo importante progetto, che segue le raccomandazioni fatte ad Arlene Foster, incoraggiandola a guardare positivamente a questa richiesta.
“Finanziare la nuova ricostruzione rappresenta in importante investimento, in partocilare per l’incredibile lavoro svolto dal Bloody Sunday Trust e per gli innovativi piani per lo sviluppo futuro.
“Questo progetto permetterà un completo apprezzamento del significato del Bloody Sunday e dell’inchiesta Saville per la gente di Derry – e anche permetterà ottime esperienze ai visitatori di questa città”.
Parte dei problemi incontrati dal museo erano legati al finanziamento di 2,3 milioni di euro che dovevano giungere da tre differenti fonti – il Tourist Board, la lotteria e il Ministero dello Sviluppo Sociale. Se uno di questi non fosse giunto, l’intero pacchetto poteva crollare.
I soldi saranno utilizzati per finanziare l’espansione del museo.

Free Derry Museum funding is secured
Vital funding for the rebuild of a Londonderry museum has been secured, the Department of Enterprise and Trade has confirmed.
Organisers of the Museum of Free Derry/a> had warned that the project could fall if the £1.2m grant from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board was not signed off by DETI.
It has now been revealed that the cash was approved on 31 October, but the details only emerged on Thursday.
Foyle MP Mark Durkan has welcomed the news.
He said: “I welcome DETI’s approval of funding for this important project, which follows further representations made to Arlene Foster encouraging her to look positively on this application.
“Funding for the new rebuild represents a very sound investment, particularly given the Bloody Sunday Trust‘s outstanding work and its innovative plans for future development.
“This project will allow for a fuller appreciation of the significance of Bloody Sunday and the Saville Inquiry for the people of Derry – as well as ensure good visitor experiences of the rounded historic narrative of this city.”
Part of the problem faced by the museum was that the funding, £2m in total, was coming from three different sources – the Tourist Board, lottery and Department of Social Development – and if one had failed to deliver, the whole package could have fallen.
The money will be used to fund a £2m expansion of the museum.
