Il poliziotto non deve essere ‘una pedina politica’

Il primo ministro ha detto che il poliziotto costretto ad abbandonare la sua casa per le minacce di morte dei repubblicani non deve essere usato come pedina nella pressione politica per ottenere maggiori fondi

Peter Robinson ha affermato che il ministro per lo Sviluppo Sociale, Margaret Ritchie, deve immediatamente finanziare il caso e ogni altro approvato per lo schema governativo destinato ad acquisire le proprietà delle persone giudicate in pericolo.

La Ritchie, che amministra il piano Sped (Special Purchase of Evacuated Dwellings – Acquisto Speciale di Abitazioni Evacuate) attraverso il Northern Ireland Housing Executive, ha affermato di cercare un finanziamento aggiuntivo dal ministro delle Finanze Sammy Wilson.

Robinson ha affermato: “Il governo ha procedure standard per il trattamento delle pressioni di finanziamento e i ministri sanno di non poter ignorare i propri obblighi. Le normali procedure dovrebbero essere seguite.

“Margaret sa molto bene che i colleghi non hanno mai mancato di gestire le situazioni di emergenza.

“La gente di fronte a queste circostanze di emergenza non dovrebbe venire utilizzata come pedine, in una pressione politica per ottenere maggiori fondi per il ministero”.

Il ministro delle Finanze Sammy Wilson ha detto che è responsabilità del ministro dello SDLP gestire il proprio budget e la Ritchie è l’unico ministro che ha ottenuto fondi aggiuntivi per il bilancio sugli alloggi.

Il dicastero della Ritchie è stato rapido a rispondere, affermando che il piano ha fallito causa la difficile situazione del credito e il crollo dei prezzi delle proprietà.

Nell’anno finanziario 2008-09 il piano Sped ha acquistato 46 abitazioni per una spesa di 8 milioni di sterline ma è stato in grado di venderne solamente 4 per un incasso di 400.000 sterline.

La Ritchie ha risposto: “Concordo pienamente con Peter Robinson che gente in queste situazioni non andrebbe utilizzata come pedina, non ho cercato alcuna pubblicità a questo riguardo.

“Ciò che desiderano queste persone, per cui provo simpatia, è risolvere la questione nel minor tempo possibile. Se il ministro delle Finanze o il primo ministro sono pronti a fornirmi una garanzia di reperimento dei fondi, prenderò in prestito i soldi dal bilancio per la manutenzione degli immobili in poco tempo, per aiutare quelle persone.

“Ieri il primo ministro ha indicato alcune cose positive a proposito di un approccio inclusivo al governo. E’ deludente che i ministri del governo conducano la questione Sped attraverso le onde radio”.

Policeman ‘mustn’t be political pawn’

The First Minister has said a policeman forced from his home by dissident republican threats on his life must not be used as a pawn in a political push for extra funds.

Peter Robinson said Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie must immediately fund the case and any others approved for the government scheme which buys property from people considered to be in danger.

Ms Ritchie, who administers the Sped scheme (Special Purchase of Evacuated Dwellings) through the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, said she was seeking extra money from Finance Minister Sammy Wilson.

Mr Robinson said: “Government has standard procedures for dealing with funding pressures and ministers know they cannot ignore their obligations. Normal procedures should be followed.

“Margaret knows very well that colleagues have never failed to deal with emergency situations.

“The people faced with these emergency circumstances should not be used as pawns in a political push for wider departmental funds.”

Finance minister Sammy Wilson said it was the SDLP minister’s responsibility to manage her budget and that she had been the only minister in the last monitoring round to receive extra funding for her housing budget.

Her department was swift to respond, saying the scheme had fallen foul of the credit crunch and plunge in property prices.

In the financial year 2008-09 the Sped scheme purchased 46 homes at a cost of £.8m but had been able to sell only four at a price of £400,000, it said.

Ms Ritchie responded: “I totally agree with Peter Robinson that people in this position should not be used as political pawns, I have not sought any publicity regarding this.”

“What the people affected by this want, and I have sympathy for them, is for this matter to be resolved quickly. If the Finance Minister or the First Minister are prepared to give me a guarantee that they will find the funds, I will borrow funds from the housing maintenance budget in the short term to help those people.”

“Yesterday the First Minister indicated some positive things about an inclusive approach to government. It is disappointing that government ministers are pursuing the Sped issue across the airwaves.”
