Michael Doherty, direttore del Peace and Reconciliation Group (Gruppo Pace e Riconciliazione), parlando per conto del Foyle Interface Monitoring Group, ha affermato che il numero di incidenti settari nell’interfaccia si sono ridotti sensibilmente.
Doherty ha spiegato: “Il Foyle Interface Monitoring Forum desidera condannare l’incidente avvenuto nello scorso fine settimana, quando una parte del Muro della Pace è stato abbattuto all’interfaccia tra Fountain e Bishop Street, ed anche l’attacco con bombe di vernice contro la First Derry Presbiterian Church. Desideriamo sottolineare che questi incidenti isolati sono avvenuti quando il numero totale degli incidenti in tutte le interfacce cittadine sono sensibilmente diminuiti negli ultimi due anni.
“Questo è avvenuto principalmente grazie al diligente lavoro dei rappresentanti comunitari, che hanno impiegato gratuitamente il loro tempo per assicurare che questo tipo di incidenti settari diventi retaggio del passato”.
Il direttore del Peace and Reconciliation Group chiede ai gruppi operanti nella zona di interfaccia di collaborare strettamente. “Incoraggiamo tutti i rappresentanti comunitari di Fountain e Bishop Street di tenersi informati l’un l’altro di qualsiasi cosa abbia luogo e che possa disturbare i successi ottenuti negli ultimi due anni. Chiediamo a chiunque abbia informazioni sui fatti dello scorso fine settimana contatti le autorità preposte”.

Derry interface incidents down
Michael Doherty, director of the Peace and Reconciliation Group, speaking on behalf of the Foyle Interface Monitoring Group said the number of sectarian incidents at the interface have been significantly reduced.
Mr Doherty said; “The Foyle Interface Monitoring Forum wish to condemn the incident at the weekend when part of the Peace Wall was knocked down at The Fountain – Bishop Street Interface and the paint attack on the First Derry Presbyterian Church. We wish to stress that these isolated incidents have happened at a time when the overall number of incidents at interfaces across the city have been significantly reduced over the past two years.
“This has been largely thanks to the diligent work of the community representatives who have given freely of their time and commitment to ensure that these types of sectarian incidents become a thing of the past.
He also called on all groups working in the area to co-operate closely. “We encourage all community representatives from the Fountain and Bishop Street to keep each other informed of anything that is taking place that may distract from the success of the past two year. We ask that anyone with any information about the events of last weekend should contact the relevant authorities.”
