In ventimila a Stormont per il Giubileo della Regina

Circa 20mila persone dovrebbero partecipare alle celebrazioni per il Giubile di Diamante della regina che si svolgeranno a Stormont a fine mese

La cifra è più del doppio di quella inizialmente stimata per l’evento che si terrà nel parco della tenuta il 27 giugno.

Fino a 10.000 biglietti gratuiti saranno disponibili al pubblico da martedì tramite Ticket Master, mentre lo stesso numero sarà composto da rappresentanti dei servizi di emergenza, di associazioni e dipartimenti governativi.

Il Northern Ireland Office ha invitato anche membri di gruppi giovanili, amministrazioni locali, aziende sanitarie e Education and Library Boards sono stati invitati.

All’inizio di questa settimana, il vice primo ministro Martin McGuinness si è detto “sorpreso” per i piani per il’evento e ha descritto come “infelice” l’annuncio del NIO.

Lo Sinn Féin non ha ancora confermato se il numero due del partito stringerà la mano della regina durante la sua visita di due giorni, il 26 e 27 giugno.

Giovedì il segretario di Stato Owen Paterson ha detto che tutti i partiti, compreso lo Sinn Féin, erano a conoscenza dei piani per la visita della Regina in Irlanda del Nord.

“Penso che tutte i partiti sono consapevoli del piano generale che è stato sviluppato, ma i dettagli emergeranno in seguito”, ha detto Paterson.

Quando gli è stato chiesto della stretta di mano tra McGuinness e la regina, ha risposto: “Questo è un dettaglio da discutere con i partiti locali”.

Ha detto che non c’è alcun incontro ma tutti i partiti sono a conoscenza “a grandi linee” del previsto soggiorno.

Per Pat Doherty dello Sinn Féin i commenti di Paterson sono in “malafede” e l’evento dovrebbe essere discusso a livello di Esecutivo nordirlandese.

“Né Owen Paterson, né il NIO hanno detto allo Sinn Féin di piani riguardanti fra 10.000 e 25.000 persone per l’evento giubilare nella tenuta Stormont.

“La questione non è passata dall’Esecutivo – cosa che a nostro avviso avrebbe dovuto accadere”.

20k to attend Stormont Jubilee party

Around 20,000 people are expected to gather at Stormont later this month for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration.

It is more than double the figure originally estimated for the event in the grounds of the estate on 27 June.

Up to 10,000 free tickets will be available to the public on Tuesday through Ticket Master, while the same number will be made up of representatives from emergency services, ex-service associations and government departments.

The Northern Ireland Office said members of youth groups, local councils, health trusts, and Education and Library Boards have also been invited.

Earlier this week, deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said he was “surprised” at the plans for the party and described the NIO announcement as “unfortunate”.

Sinn Féin has still not confirmed whether he will shake the Queen’s hand during her two-day visit on 26-27 June.

On Thursday Secretary of State Owen Paterson said all parties, including Sinn Féin, were aware of plans for the Queen’s visit to Northern Ireland.

“I think all parties are aware of the general plan that was being developed, but details will emerge later,” Mr Paterson said.

When asked about the handshake, he said: “That’s a detail to be discussed with local parties.”

He said he was not in any actual meetings but said that all parties were aware of the “broad outlines” of the planned visit.

But Sinn Féin MP Pat Doherty said Mr Paterson’s comments were “disingenuous” and the event should have been discussed by the Executive.

“Neither Owen Paterson nor the NIO told Sinn Féin of plans for between 10,000 and 25,000 people holding a Jubilee event in the Stormont estate.

“This matter did not go to the Executive – in our view it should have done.”
