E’ stato rivelato che il memoriale – costruito nella cittadina di Newtownbutler nelle ultime settimane – non ha ricevuto il permesso di costruzione.
Il parlamentare dell’Ulster Unionist, Tom Elliott, ha accolto positivamente l’indagine, e ha chiesto di multare chi si cela dietro al memoriale.
“Appena sono stato informato dell’erezione del monumento in Newtownbutler, ho chiesto in giro per conoscere chi lo ha costruito e se il permesso era stato fornito”, ha riferito Elliott.
“Housing Executive ha confermato la proprietà dell’edificio, mentre il Planning Service ha affermato di non aver ricevuto alcuna richiesta per la costruzione”.
Un portavoce del Planning Service, ha confermato che nessuna domanda “è stata ricevuta, ad oggi” per il monumento.
“Planning Service può confermare l’indagine su una presunta violazione del Planning Control nella zona di Galloon Gardens a Newtownbutler”, ha detto il portavoce.

Inquiry into IRA monument
It has been revealed that the memorial – built in the village of Newtownbutler in recent weeks – had not been granted planning permission.
Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott welcomed the investigation, and called for those behind the monument to be penalised.
“As soon as I was informed about the erection of the monument in Newtownbutler, I made inquires about the land to discover who owned it and if permission had been granted,” said Mr Elliott.
“Housing Executive confirmed that they owned the property while Planning Service confirmed that no planning application had been received.”
A spokesperson for the Planning Service confirmed that an application “had not been received, to date” for the monument.
“Planning Service can confirm that they are investigating an alleged breach of Planning Control in the Galloon Gardens area of Newtownbutler,” said the spokesperson.
