Membro di spicco dello Sinn Fein, Denis Donaldson aveva lavorato al soldo degli inglesi per oltre 20 anni. Il suo corpo senza vita fu ritrovato nella sua casa isolata di Cloghercor, vicino a Doochary, nella Contea di Donegal, il 4 aprile 2006.
A Donaldson spararono quattro volte all’interno del cottage, a 8 chilometri da Glenties.
Ad un’udienza a Letterkenny la Garda aveva chiesto un ulteriore aggiornamento perché erao stati fatti “sostanziali progressi” nel corso delle indagini.
Stephen Byrne, consulente per lo Stato, ha detto che la domanda di aggiornamento era stata fatta in buona fede.
“Ha tutte le caratteristiche per essere un’indagine molto complessa che interessa due giurisdizioni e che necessita di tempo” ha affermato.
Il medico legale ha fissato una data per un incontro preliminare tra le parti da tenersi il prossimo mese prima dell’udienza, che si terrà il prossimo gennaio.
Inquest into Denis Donaldson murder set for January
Senior Sinn Fein figure Denis Donaldson, who had been operating as a British spy for 20 years, was found dead in his remote home at Cloghercor, near Doochary in Co Donegal, on April 4, 2006.
He had been shot four times inside the cottage, 8km from Glenties.
At a hearing in Letterkenny, yesterday, gardai sought a further adjournment because “substantial progress” was being made in the investigation.
The junior counsel for the State, Stephen Byrne, said that the application for adjournment was bone fide.
“It has all the hallmarks of being a very complex investigation spanning two jurisdictions that is of necessity going to take time,” he said.
The coroner set a date for a preliminary meeting to take place between the parties next month in advance of the inquest hearing, which was scheduled to be held next January.
