Sette uomini sono stati accusati in relazione ai disordini scoppiati lunedì sera a East Belfast
I sette uomini – tutti di età compresa tra 19 e 31 anni – sono stati arrestati per vari reati e dovrebbero comparire in tribunale mercoledì mattina.
Anche un quindicenne ed un ventottenne sono stati fermati ma in seguito rilasciati. La polizia conferma che i loro incartamenti saranno consegnati al Public Prosecution Service.
Quattro agenti della PSNI hanno riportato lievi ferite dopo il lancio di oggetti avvenuto poco dopo il passaggio pacifico di una parata commemorativa per la Battaglia della Somme organizzata dall’Orange Order.
Numerose persone si sono radunate nella zona di Castlereagh Street, Albertbridge Road e Mountpottinger Road.
Gli operatori comunitari hanno cercato di mantenere la calma, ma la polizia è stata chiamata nell’area, diventando bersaglio del lancio di bottiglie, fuochi d’artificio e altri oggetti.
Nove persone, quindi, sono state fermate dagli agenti.
Niall Ó Donnghaile, consigliere dello Sinn Fein, ha lodato gli sforzi dei leader comunitari, ma ha spiegato che la Comissione Parate deve “andare al punto” proponendo una soluzione.
“Ha bisogno di guardare alla differenza fatta quando un’altra parata importante nel maggio di quest’anno ha sfilato lungo un percorso alternativo, lontano da Short Strand, che è anche una valida opzione per questa parata”, ha detto.

Seven charged after Belfast disorder
Seven men have been charged in connection with trouble that broke out in east Belfast on Monday night.
The seven men – all aged between 19 and 31 – were arrested over various public order offences and are due to appear in court on Wednesday morning.
A 15-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man who were also arrested have since been released pending reports to the Public Prosecution Service, police have confirmed.
Four officers suffered minor injuries after missiles were thrown at them during the disorder, which occurred after the earlier Orange Order Somme Commemoration parade had passed off largely peacefully.
Crowds gathered in the Catlereagh Street/Albertbridge Road area, and at Mountpottinger Road.
Community workers from both areas tried to maintain calm, but police were called in and were subsequently attacked with bottles, fireworks and other missiles.
Nine people were arrested.
Sinn Féin councillor Niall Ó Donnghaile praised the efforts of community leaders, but said the Parades Commission must “step up to the mark” with a solution.
“It needs to look at the difference made when another major parade in May this year took an alternative route, away from the Short Strand, which is also a viable option for this parade,” he said.
