La gestione della sicurezza dell’incontro di calcio Irlanda del Nord-Polonia e gli scontri successivi sono costati alla polizia 105.000 sterline
La polizia ha riferito che il costo della gestione della sicurezza durante la partita è costata 71.031 sterline ed i costi dovuti agli scontri sono quantificati in 34.184 sterline.
Quattro persone sono state accusate per i disordini e altre sono state denunciate alle autorità.
“Data la natura e l’estensione dei disordini, che sembrano essere orchestrati da uno zoccolo duro di hooligans irriducibili venuti ad assistere alla partita da fuori Irlanda del Nord, l’operazione di polizia finalizzata alla protezione delle persone e delle proprietà nella zone, sono state proporzionate ed appropriate”, ha fatto sapere la polizia.
La polizia ha comunicato i costi in risposta ad una richiesta promossa da BBC in base alla Freedom of Information (Libertà di Informazione).
Gli scontri sono iniziati nel centro cittadino poco prima delle 15:00 quando i tifosi nordirlandesi e polacchi sono giunti nello stesso Wetherspoons pub in Bedford Street.
Durante l’incontro, il gioco è stato sospeso per cinque minuti dopo che un guardialinee è stato colpito alla testa da un piccolo oggetto lanciato dagli spalti.
I tifosi della Polonia sono stati tenuti all’interno dello stadio per quasi un’ora dopo la fine della partita.

‘Riot match’ cost PSNI £100,000
Policing the Northern Ireland vs Poland international and ensuing rioting cost £105,000, the police have said.
Police said the cost of policing the match was £71,031 and the cost incurred by the rioting was £34,184.
Four people have been charged in connection with the trouble and a number of others reported.
“Given the nature and extent of the disorder, which appeared to be orchestrated by a hard core of hardened football hooligans travelling to the game from outside Northern Ireland, the police operation aimed at protecting lives and property in the area was proportionate and appropriate,” police said.
The police released the costs in response to a Freedom of Information request from the BBC.
Trouble started in the city centre shortly before 1500 GMT on when Northern Ireland and Poland fans gathered in the same Wetherspoons pub on Bedford Street.
During the game play was suspended for five minutes after a linesman was hit on the head with a small object thrown from the crowd.
The Polish fans were kept inside the ground for nearly an hour after the match.
