Incontro di emergenza per la dirigenza UUP

Un incontro di emergenza dell’esecutivo dell’Ulster Unionist Party si terrà sabato, mentre crescono le speculazioni sul futuro di Tom Elliott

Il leader dell’UUP ha sollevato molte critiche, quando presso il centro di conta di Omagh ha parlato dei sostenitori dello Sinn Fein come di “feccia”.

Si è appreso, comunque, che nell’incontro di sabato a Dungannon non si materializzerà una sfida diretta alla sua leadership.

Tuttavia, nel mese di giugno l’Ulster Unionist Party terrà la propria Assemblea Generale, e allora la posizione di Elliott potrebbe essere messa in discussione.

Chiunque voglia correre per la guida del partito deve presentare la propria candidatura entro le 17 di venerdì.

Elliott ritiene che non si farà avanti nessuno.

“Abbiamo avuto un incontro del gruppo dell’Assemblea (martedì) e non ci sono stati annunci del genere”, afferma il numero uno di UUP.

“E non penso accadrà nulla del genere”.

UUP to hold emergency meeting

An emergency executive meeting of the Ulster Unionist Party is to be held on Saturday, as speculation grows about the future of Tom Elliott.

The UUP leader sparked controversy at the Omagh count centre on Saturday, during an election victory speech, when he referred to Sinn Fein supporters in the hall as ‘scum.’

It is understood a direct challenge to his leadership is unlikely to materialise at the weekend meeting in Dungannon.

However, next month, the Ulster Unionists hold their AGM, where the leader’s position can be up for discussion.

Anyone wanting to contest the leadership have up until 5pm on Friday to be nominated.

Mr Elliott does not believe anyone will stand against him.

“We had a meeting of the Assembly group yesterday (Tuesday) and there was no hint of anything like that,” he said.

“And I don’t see anything like that happening.”
