Indagine in prigione per Andre Shoukri

Sta per prendere il via un’indagine a Maghaberry per un pestaggio avvenuto tra il lealista ed un uomo incarcerato per aver aggredito la vittima con un martello da carpentiere, lasciando in stato vegetativo

L’ex leader UDA è stato coinvolto in un litigio con Gerard Donegan, di West Belfast, che sta scontando 15 anni per il tentato omicidio di Maurice McCracken, aggredito mentre dormiva nel suo letto nel 2003.

Entrambi gli uomini sono stati tenuti nella Special Supervision Unit (SSU) (cella di isolamento) del carcere di Maghaberry mentre gli agenti di custodia indagano le circostante dell’incidente.

Fonti della prigione dicono che Donegan ha cercato di accoltellare Shoukri dopo un pesante scambio di offese.

Shoukri si è difeso e i due hanno iniziato a prendersi a pugni, prima dell’intervento del personale.

Entrambi gli uomini sono stati medicati per lievi ferite prima di essere trasportati nel blocco punitivo.

Donegan, 27 anni, insieme a suo fratello penetrò nell’abitazione del cinquantaseienne McCraken in Strangford Avenue, South Belfast, colpendolo con un martello mentre dormiva.

Il più giovane dei fratelli Donegan, Kevin Barry detto Moyna, ha ricevuto una pena di otto anni.

Shoukri sta terminando il periodo di nove anni da scontare in carcere per una serie di reati legati alla sua attività di terrorista, tra cui ricatto, intimidazione e acquisizione di proprietà in maniera criminosa.

Shoukri prison punch-up probe

AN INVESTIGATION is under way after leading loyalist Andrew Shoukri was involved in a fight with a man convicted of a claw hammer attack that left his victim in a permanent vegetative state.

The former UDA leader was involved in a vicious altercation with west Belfast man Gerard Donegan, currently serving 15 years for the attempted murder of Maurice McCracken, who was attacked as he slept in his bed in 2003.

Both men were last night being held in Maghaberry prison’s special supervision unit (SSU) while prison officials investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Prison sources say that Donegan attempted to stab the prominent paramilitary after a heated exchange.

Shoukri retaliated and the two were involved in a fist fight before staff were able to intervene.

Both men are said to have been treated for non-serious injuries following the disturbance in the top security Co Down jail, before being taken to the punishment block.

Along with his brother Donegan (27) had broken into the home of 56-year old Mr McCracken at Strangford Avenue in south Belfast, beating him with a hammer as he slept.

The younger of the pair Kevin Barry Donegan, also known as Moyna, was sentenced to eight years for the attack with left Mr McCracken with permanent brain damage.

Shoukri is coming to the end of a nine-year jail term for a catalogue of terrorism-related offences, including blackmail, intimidation and acquiring criminal property.
