Un uomo della Contea di Armagh è sotto processo con l’accusa di aver assassinato un fficiale dell’esercito britannico oltre trent’anni fa
Kevin Crilly, 59 anni di Jonesborough, si presenterà in aula oggi, giovedì, presso la Belfast Crown Court.
L’uomo è stato arrestato tra anni fa con l’accusa di rapimento e sequestro.
Nel novembre 2009, Crilly fu accusato anche per l’omicidio di Nairac durante un’udienza per il rilascio su cauzione sulle due precedenti accuse tenutasi alla Newry Magistrates Court.
Negli ultimi 30 anni Crilly aveva vissuto negli Stati Uniti.
Nell’anno seguente alla sparizione di Nairac, tre uomini erano stati incarcerati per l’omicidio, ma la polizia ha sempre detto di cercare altri sospettati.
Il capitano Nairac, originario di Gloucestershire, faceva parte dei Grenadier Guards.
Nairac fu interrogato, torturato e quindi ucciso, dopo essere stato rapito dal parcheggio del Three Steps Inn a Drumintee, vicino a Jonesborough.
Quindi il suo corpo fu trasportato oltre il confine con la Repubblica d’Irlanda e sepolto in un campo isolato a Ravensdale, nella Contea di Louth.
I suoi resti non sono mai stati ritrovati.

Nairac murder trial to begin
A Co Armagh man is set to go on trial on Thursday accused of murdering a British Army officer over three decades ago.
59-year-old Kevin Crilly, from Lower Foughill Road, Jonesborough, will go on trial on Thursday at Belfast Crown Court.
He was arrested three years ago charged with kidnapping and false imprisonment.
In November 2009, Crilly was also charged with Nairac’s murder of at Newry Magistrates Court during a bail hearing on the two previous charges.
Crilly had previously lived in America for almost three decades.
In the years after Nairac’s disappearance, three men were convicted of his murder, but police always said they were looking for more suspects.
Captain Nairac, originally from Gloucestershire, was a 29-year-old Grenadier Guardsman.
He was questioned, tortured and then shot dead after being snatched from the car park of the Three Steps Inn at Drumintee, near Jonesborough.
He was driven across the border to an isolated field at Ravensdale, Co Louth.
His remains have never been found.
