The dissidents left a short time later and the meeting continued.

Sinn Fein councillor Anne Brolly condemned the actions: “These people do have a right to protest but they have no right to disrupt a meeting.”

“The chairperson did give them the opportunity to come and talk to us and to explain what their problem was but they didn’t want to do that,” she added.

A police spokesperson said they were “committed to working with the community on community issues and look forward to the next public meeting”.

“Meetings like this allow members of the public to put forward their viewpoints and constructively and positively contribute towards policing in the Limavady area,” he said.

“While we appreciate that people have the right to protest peacefully, any complaints or breaches of the law will be fully investigated.”

On 31 July about 30 protesters threw stink bombs, blew whistles and chanted anti-police slogans at a DPP meeting in Derry.

The meeting between the local district policing partnership and the PSNI was called off. No-one was arrested.
