IRA deve fornire informazioni su tutti i Disappeared

Chiedono all’IRA di fare chiarezza sulle vittime restanti che furono sepolte in segreto, dopo la rivelazione del The Irish News che ha aggiunto ai Disappeared un uomo di West Belfast

Peter Wilson, 21 anni della zona di St James, scomparve ad agosto 1973. All’epoca le voci circolanti parlavano di un suo arruolamento nell’esercito britannico e dell’abbandono del quartiere repubblicano.

Comunque, adesso si pensa che Wilson fu sequestrato e ucciso dall’IRA, per essere poi seppellito in una tomba segreta, dopo le voci che lo indicavano come informatore per l’esercito inglese.

Wilson fu descritto come “una persona vulnerabile” con difficoltà di apprendimento.

Adesso è stato ufficialmente agiunto alla lista dei Disappeared – persone rapite, assassinate e sepolte clandestinamente dai repubblicani.

Alex Attwood, SDLP, portavoce per la sicurezza per il partito nazionalista ha detto ieri sera che è giunto il tempo per l’IRA di dare pieno riscontro per qualsiasi altra vittima potrebbe esserci.

“Lo SDLP spera che le nuove informazioni fornite all’ICLVR [Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains] su un’altra vittima, possano velocemente trasformarsi nell’identificazione dei resti e alla consegna alla famiglia”; ha detto.

“Lo SDLP pone ulteriore speranza che i resti di tutti i Disappeared siano trovati ed il lavoro della commissione possa andare oltre.

“Tempo fa lo SDLP chiese se l’IRA aveva fornito alla commissione tutte le informazioni di cui era a disposizione.

“All’epoca, la commissione si disse soddisfatta delle informazioni fornite e lo stesso fece lo Sinn Fein.

“Adesso sembra ci possa essere un’ulteriore vittima uccisa e fatta sparire e quella informazione non fu mai portata all’attenzione della commissione.

“Questo solleva un’altra domanda fondamentale.

“Ci sono altre persone non ancora conteggiate che sono state uccise dall’IRA e fatte scomparire e per le quali la commissione deve ancora ricevere informazioni?

“Adesso è perfettamente lecito chiedere un’altra cosa.

“Ci sono altre persone uccise dall’IRA che non sono mai state identificate, nominate pubblicamente o alla commissione?

“Questa mi sembra una domanda ragionevole da porre e merita una risposta”.

Il ministro Junior dello Sinn Fein, Gerry Kelly, ha detto la scorsa sera che chiunque abbia informazioni in merito dovrebbe renderle disponibili alla commissione, con sede a Dublino.

“Non ho idea di chi ci sia dietro”, ha affermato.

“Ciò che vorrei dire è che se ci sono informazioni in grado di aiutare allora deve essere presentata e resa disponibile”.

IRA told to account for any remaining victims it buried

THE IRA has been told to come clean about any remaining victims who were secretly buried, following a revelation in The Irish News that a previously unknown case of a missing west Belfast man had been added to the list of the Disappeared.

Peter Wilson (21), from the St James area, went missing in August 1973. At the time rumours circulated that he had joined the British army and left the staunchly republican area.

However, it is now believed that Mr Wilson was abducted and killed by the IRA and buried in an unmarked grave amid allegations he was colluding with the British army.

Mr Wilson has been described as a “vulnerable individual” who had learning difficulties.

He has now officially been added to the list of the so-called Disappeared – people abducted, murdered and clandestinely buried by republicans.

SDLP policing spokesman Alex Attwood said last night that now was the time for the IRA to give full disclosure regarding any further victims there might be.

“The SDLP very much hopes new information provided to ICLVR [Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains] about another victim will quickly result in the remains being identified and returned to the family,” he said.

“The SDLP further hopes that the remains of all the Disappeared are located and the work of the commission moves forward.

“Some time ago the SDLP asked if the IRA had conveyed all information to the commission.

“At the time, the commission indicated that they were satisfied with the information brought to their attention and Sinn Fein said likewise.

“It now transpires there may be another victim who was killed and disappeared and that information was not previously brought to the attention of the commission.

“This raises a further fundamental question.

“Are there other people as yet unaccounted for who were killed by the IRA and disappeared and in respect of whom the commission has yet to receive any information?

“It’s now entirely proper to ask a further question.

“Are there other people killed by the IRA who have never been identified or accounted for publicly or to the commission?

“This is a reasonable question to ask and one that needs an answer.”

Sinn Fein junior minister Gerry Kelly last night said that anyone who had information should make it available to the Dublin-based commission.

“I have no idea who is behind this,” he said.

“What I would say that if there is information that could assist then that needs to be brought forward and made available.”
